CBS had game selection clout w the SEC also, and could handpick the premier matchup every Saturday .
They don’t have that same clout with the Big 10, as they have to share that conference w FOX and NBC as well.

I don't blame Texas or OK at all for coming into the conference.
I blame all the weak AD's and presidents that voted or supported their addition because they thought the SEC needed these programs.

Actually CBS aired random SEC games in the 1980's. Alabama-Auburn in 1989 was on CBS as were others under the old CFA deal.

They had the SEC game of the week. The Big 10 game of the week belongs to FOX at noon. I can assure you for the same price they'd rather be televising Alabama vs Tennessee than Minnesota vs Nebraska
"Big noon kickoff" exists solely because the SEC dominated the afternoon and prime time slot for decades. It was a useless endeavor to try to go toe-to-toe in those slots

Agreed. They also seemed to put the microphones closer to the bands and the student sections back in the day and the announcers were more of a background noise like it always should have been.

Y'all can reminisce over CBS all you like but ABC/ESPN has been a vastly superior product. It's been great getting high-quality conference games in the 11:00, 2:30, and 6:30 timeslots every week, rather than getting a terrible 11:00 game, all the good games simultaneously at 2:30, and a second-rate late game most weeks.
