Violent crime =/= getting mugged.
Birmingham is at or near the top of the list when it comes to highest rates of aggravated assault, rape, larceny-theft, burglary and property crimes in general.
I'm in the process of completing a research project focusing on crime in the South. New Orleans has, as I said, an awful murder rate. But you won't find it near the top of the list for any of the major crime categories listed above.
I'm not sitting on my high horse knocking Birmingham. Being from New Orleans, I know what bad crime looks like. But when you actually look at the numbers and see that Birmingham is far worse than New Orleans in all of those categories (and more), you realize that Birmingham has a rampant crime problem. Not to mention an extremely high poverty rate.

Intelligent response.

It doesn't take a genius to easily determine New Orleans is by far one of the most violent places in the U.S. and any report you post is not valid if New Orleans is not even in the top 25.

I'm only posting statistics compiled by the FBI. If you don't find the FBI to be a valid source then feel free to recommend an alternative.

Yea smaller than the hoover met but the met isn't filled to capacity in the sec tourney unless it's bama vs auburn.. so I think this would be the venue of the future.. Same general area, newer facility, close to a lot of hotels, bars, restaurants, etc

Sorry but no one cares about Nola or crime stats... take it to the ot

The new stadium is still nicer than I thought it would be. But I would still like to see the SECT moved to either Memphis or Gwinnett County.

You seem to care quite a bit...

I highly doubt the sec baseball tourney will go to atl. They host too many sec tourneys.. Memphis has no affiliation with the sec so doubt it will go there.

I think Memphis would do very well with the SEC fan base if the tournament was there.
And Coolray Field in Gwinnett County is perfect. Atlanta has a lot to offer and does well with the SEC Championship game and the SECT in basketball...which isn't "too many" in terms of hosts.

Just can't see Atlanta hosting it..

I'm just keeping myself occupied.
As for the Tourney, Regions Field looks like it will be a fantastic park. I would also have to think that they could bring in some temporary seating if needed. If so, I'd be completely on board with RF hosting the SECT rather than Hoover.

Memphis has an awesome ballpark and Gwinnett is also a good location. The problem is that having "a lot of things to do" can actually hurt the event. I remember a few of my Auburn buddies going to the SEC basketball tourney in New Orleans several years ago when Auburn was pretty good. They got distracted in the French Quarter and never even went to any of the games which was their whole reason for being there. What makes cities like New Orleans and even Memphis great cities to visit is also a detriment and a distraction for multi game events like the basketball and baseball tournaments.

This is exactly why every SEC Tournament should be played in Starkville.

It's Alex Box..only with the infinitely superior outfield layout and seating that LSU's braintrust fumbled away..that and the skyline view.
Very nice.
Very nice.

I've been a big advocate for the downtown stadium for years. If they do it right and keep things safe, it will be a much cooler experience than the Hoover Met. Personally, I don't like the design of the stadium. Looks a little too modern for my taste.
As for the entertainment district near the Westin, I think that thing is destined to fail. It will never get the traffic needed to support some of the retail. A pre-planned entertainment district in that area is just a tough sell. I've been to the Todd English place at the Westin twice now and it is very shitty. Tries way too hard to be a sports bar and the food is terrible.
The next goal for Bham is to build a badass arena and do whatever it can to get the SEC Basketball tournament on rotation there along with an NCAA Tourny spot.

Regions Park was built for a Minor League Baseball team and while I don't follow Baseball at all, Im pretty sure that a MLB field you have listed
Its Bricktown Ballpark in OKC. Triple A ball for the Astros.
Like I said the area is perfect for a weekend plus of baseball. Too bad the shitty Big XII never brought any fans.
Another really nice feature was the Hampton Inn and parking garage in left field. You can watch games from your room and go tailgate in the garage and not have to pay when your team isn't playing. The also have a public bar and grill that overlooks the field from LF (foul territory) too.
