I would start with The Searchers. After that maybe Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, or Unforgiven. Also both Silverado and Maverick are very entertaining.

Wild Wild West with Will Smith…kidding.
This one isn’t as high as Tombstone or some of the newer ones, but I’ve always appreciated Big Jake with the Duke…probably because my dad let me watch it with him as a little kid when he was watching old reruns. It was a lot better than the Disney movies my older sister would choose.

dialogue laughably stiff and corny.
One of the most iconic lines in movie history, Eli Wallach as Calvera:
I leave it to you. Can men of our profession worry about things like that? It may even be sacrilegious. If God didn't want them sheared, He would not have made them sheep.

The Seatchers is probably one of the best westerns ever made but John Wayne's other classic The Cowboys is one of my favorites.
Another classic is One Eyed Jacks (Marlon Brando 1961)
Wyatt Earp or Tombstone is a good film but I never really felt like the story between the Earps and the cowboy gang was told very thoroughly. If you're interested in understanding it better there is a film called Wyatt Earp and the Cowboy War on Netflix that explains the buildup to the shootout at the OK corral and how it all went down. Pretty good stuff.

Concur with everyone else on 'The Good, the Bad and the Ugly'.
Some others...
'The Wild Bunch' - The entire movie is worth watching just to watch the ultra-violent ending shootout.
'The Long Riders' - Best movie about the James/Younger gang. All the actors that play brothers in the movie are brothers in real life. David Carradine as Cole Younger and his real life brothers Keith Carradine and Robert Carradine are exceptional.
'Cold Mountain' - Worth watching for a young, smoking hot Nicole Kidman. But an epic movie with a star-studded cast.

Big Jake is pretty good for sure. Add to it McClintock and The Shootist.
The sequel to True Grit would be a good watch, Rooster Cogburn.
The Cowboys. I always hated Bruce Dern for his role in that flick.
Cahill, US Marshall
Culpepper Cattle Company
Bad Compay, young Jeff Bridges.
Hell or High Water, old Jeff Bridges. Excellent movie, very much modern west Texas.

^^^^This is a great Western ^^^
Very under appreciated in the modern era when people reference a really good Western without regurgitating the same old stuff.
I’ll also add The Searchers. with John Wayne.
John Ford wa the best Director of that era. Any of his work is grade A.
