Blueblood college football programs can remain down much longer than people expect. Miami, USC, Florida, FSU, Nebraska, Tennessee, Michigan, and Texas have all had surprisingly long stretches of lean years. There's absolutely nothing preventing Alabama from sinking to similar or lower depths than what these programs have gone through. In fact, I'd argue that's almost a certainty.
Agreed

Would Saban have allowed the players to have a dance off in the locker room after losing to FSU? You would think Bama had won the game.
That happened?

I don’t believe your statistic is accurate. Maybe loudmouth message board types thought this, but most of us understood there would be an immediate decline.
But we also know that Bama will be back. We’ve got 100 years of historical evidence on this: it might take 10, 15 years, but Bama always comes back to the top.
I'm sure a handful of the more intelligent fans were skeptical but they certainly weren't too vocal at the time
.
Maybe, maybe not. I think that is the point OP is making. I don't believe future success is as assured as you do. It wouldn't be shocking at all if Alabama goes through the wilderness for a very long time. I think the only program that is truly impervious to a prolonged slide in college football is Ohio State.

I heard they were doing that.

Saban woke the sleeping giant that is LSU. We've won two (basically three) more natties with the two stupidest coaches since then. LSU is the brand he benefitted and learned from.
LSU fans: “Despite all the previous wins, conference titles, and national championships; Nick Saban built Bama.”
Also LSU fans: “LSU was never that good before Saban arrived; but LSU built Nick Saban.”
That really is LSU logic.

I think that Josh Heupel is going to abruptly resign from Tennessee mid-season to pursue his real passion, selling hand knitted sweaters for dogs and cats. Tennessee will struggle finding a replacement coach. Finally, out of options, Tennessee will rehire Butch Jones. During off season renovations of Neyland workers will find human skeletons. Archeologists will determine that Neyland Stadium is built on a sacred Cherokee indian burial ground. The Cherokee Nation will immediately put a curse on Tennessee football. Thus cursed, Tennessee will never, ever win another game.
If we are going to make up stories, let’s at least make them creative.

Sometimes reality is more fun such as delusional Gumps thinking they wouldn't miss a beat without the midget.

This may be true to a certain degree, but the state of Ohio’s personal hell is being stuck with shite NFL franchises. Before Burrow was drafted the Bengals were the laughing stock of the league. Only to be saved from that dubious description by the Cleveland Frowns for the last 20 years or so

How do you think Alabama got both of those coaches?
You got Saban because Bama had become the conference joke with Dubose, the coach that left you for aggy , Mike Price and Destiny, the Shula years.
Saban even turned them down twice but Bama was willing to let him name his price in the end because they were embarrassed at what they had become

With Saban it was mostly good timing.

They still do. This isn’t a delusion that goes away overnight. It takes years. Enjoy the entertainment.
Sidewalk fans like TT9 will accept reality faster than true believers like TideSaint.

Truth. If the Dolphins sign Brees, Saban stays and isn't at Bama. Saban could take most teams in the SEC and turned them into a dynasty. It would have been easier at some schools than others. Kentucky and Vandy would not likely become football dynasties.
