Saban said his biggest regret was leaving LSU
That sure didn’t stop him from destroying the sanity of the LSU fanbase. To love LSU so much he sure seemed to relish inflicting carnage on the LSU football team and LSU fanbase. He isn’t even coaching anymore and he still has most of them mindfricked.

Saban woke the sleeping giant that is LSU. We've won two (basically three) more natties with the two stupidest coaches since then. LSU is the brand he benefitted and learned from.
Saban is the horse that drove bama's cart. Not the other way around. Outside of him and Bryant bama has ONE natty. Bama has a history: of bear and Saban. LSU IS LSU's brand.
Back to the bottom where you belong.

You lucked into Saban. You won't admit it but true fans know. Saban would have done the same at LSU or Georgia, heck even Tennessee and you know it. Saban's success wasn't exclusively tied to Bama. His success is because he was an absolute college coaching savant.
This is the reality that is forgotten. Alabama was beyond desperate and lucky that it panned out this way.The incredible irony is that if the Alabama job is as awesome as their fans innately think it is, then they wouldn't have hired Saban because one of the myriad of other coaching candidates would have accepted the position long before they had to desperately hope for Saban at the end of the NFL season.m It's not like Saban was holding out specifically for the Gump job. He'd have accepted any reasonable SEC gig that was open. At that time it was unfortunately Alabama.
You're also correct in stating that Saban would have done equally elsewhere. I'd argue he'd produce roughly the same results at Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Tennessee and maybe even Arkansas or South Carolina.
Blueblood college football programs can remain down much longer than people expect. Miami, USC, Florida, FSU, Nebraska, Tennessee, Michigan, and Texas have all had surprisingly long stretches of lean years. There's absolutely nothing preventing Alabama from sinking to similar or lower depths than what these programs have gone through. In fact, I'd argue that's almost a certainty.

It really takes some skill to contradict yourself twice in the first sentence.
Brand mostly built on the two greatest coaches in college football history.
Don't see how that contradicts the first statement.

Alabama has had the luxury of having the 2 greatest coaches in college football history
True. If you took away the 2 greatest college football coaches of all time and removed them and their titles from Alabama, you’d only have 3 more coaches that have won 6 national titles at Alabama. Weak sauce

I'm not trying to climb out of any hole. I readily acknowledge that Alabama has been dominant with Bryant and Saban. In fact, that's kind of my point.
And DeBoer…man, LSU should be embarrassed

Pre WWII and pre integration is ancient history.
23 years between Bear and Saban: 6 coaches, 3 SEC championships and 1 National championship.
Pretty big sample size and the results were nothing special.

How do you think Alabama got both of those coaches?
Just curious to hear your logic on this.
OP has some truth. Coaching hires are a total crapshoot. For Alabama, USC, Michigan, OSU, etc. For everyone.
Kalen DeBoer was the absolute best coach in the country when Alabama hired him, remember?

At the time 90% of the Alabama fans were saying crazy things like there would be minimal or no dropoff. The vast majority were thrilled to have DeBoer when the hire was made.

If you are wondering why the fans from other SEC teams are trolling you and the university, is because of this kind of reaction. Y’all can’t handle this side of the spectrum. Your low IQ and being spoiled from the last coaches record is what is fueling now, and what will keep these comments going ALL season long. Very amusing rebuttal from old pros like yourself. ??

Not terrible for the supposed worst 23 years of a program’s history.

I don’t believe your statistic is accurate. Maybe loudmouth message board types thought this, but most of us understood there would be an immediate decline.
But we also know that Bama will be back. We’ve got 100 years of historical evidence on this: it might take 10, 15 years, but Bama always comes back to the top.
