Not in the days of NIL and free agency.
Schools like Vanderbilt, Stanford, Northwestern… Priorities are different. That isn’t to say they can’t field a bowl team occasionally.

G-5, where they belong.

Move them to the American or Sun Belt conferences.

So here is what us funny, Tamu has not played them enough to realize that since Tamu joined the sec, Vandy likely beats you guys on 3-4 occasions.
They may lose a lot but they are historical a tough out and generally snuck up on a couple of sec teams a year.

Vanderbilt is like Rice and Tulane. They had the wherewithal to stay in the SEC and try, and I think that’s awesome. Whereas Tulane left generations ago, and Rice was content wherever they landed after the SWC imploded.

The "Vandy United Fund" is pretty strong.

I believe they have a huge endowment. If they care, they can open the vault for NIL and become competitive. If they don't care, they should be shown the door to the OVC.

Yes, a single poster on the rant has been named spokesman for the Texas admin and thousands of alumni worldwide
And then the architect cried when all I did was post a simple fact in response to the OP

There isn't a lot of data on the differential between Vandy athletes vs non-athletes in admissions. But, I bet is pretty significant.
Yes,
It is a relative thing. Athletes get into Stanford/Vandy/Northwestern with lower scores than regular students. Say a 1200 to 1250 SAT instead of a 1500 (like a regular admit) will get you in if you are a scholarship football player.
But there are probably entire squads of state school football teams that don't have a guy that made as high as 1250 on the SAT.
If these high academic schools actually fielded a team full of brianiacs who were 1500 or better... they wouldn't beat a D3 team.

Lower the academic standards and allocate more money to football. That’s what it takes.

Wow! 10 Billion endowment! I didn't know that. Kinda proud a founding SEC member has that large of an endowment.
And Vanderbilt is competitive in baseball and basketball. They don't need to leave the SEC.

Of course, their student section chant was more ruthless than any other SEC venue I’ve been to…
