I tend to agree- I have no problem with the NCAA cleaning programs up but have some damn consistency.

I agree with you TigerTalker. If a University, UNC in this case, is just going to give out degrees to students that are not doing coursework should it really be called a institution of higher learning? Should students get federal funds for going there? I mean you guys got hosed

The NCAA definitely is inconsistent - and the that is the best you can say

The basketball program is top tier. That is why it avoided punishment.

There’s legitimately no joy in this. Unless other evidence has surfaced that we don’t know about, this is basically the NCAA taking the side of a disgruntled tutor. That’s pretty damn flimsy.
Agreed.
UGA didn't get in any NCAA trouble for the Jan Kemp BS in the 80's but we got raked over the coals on a daily basis by the AJC and national media. It might as well have been probation because we took a big hit in recruiting because of it.Rivals continually used it against for years.

Previously, he spent five years at another Kansas City firm, Husch Blackwell, where education and sports were the core of his work. He first represented the NCAA in litigation in 1998, and since then has served as a legal advisor for the NCAA and offered legal counsel to its committees, working groups and task forces. Funny how that shite works out, right?

The state of Missouri will be fighting two of the biggest piles of turd (NCAA and NFL) in North American sports in court all year long.

It serves Missouri right. Pay the damned tutor so he keeps his or her mouth shut......at least call Alabama to find out how this is done and what kind of compensation the poor bastard should be offered
At least ole Nick makes sure the people who help him are paid!!!!!!!!!
Same with just about any other school in the SEC

Here’s the deal: UNC got off because when the NCAA tried to punish them, UNC lawyered up and used the loophole that since the fake courses were offered to everyone and not just athletes, it wasn’t extra benefits and therefore it was an academic matter and not an athletics matter and the NCAA had no jurisdiction to punish the school over academics.
The way to fight the NCAA has been shown over and over: do NOT cooperate despite what they tell you. Lawyer up, clam up and make them do all the work to prove anything and everything.
Lastly, I’m no Missouri fan by any means but this is just more bullshite by the governing body over college athletics. It is a corrupt, obsolete institution that needs to be dissolved and replaced or at least the P5 schools should break away and tell them to frick off.
And before you go laughing at Missou, there but by the grace of God, goes your school. There’s not one among us who couldn’t have a tutor or other support staff go rogue and throw the school under the bus. We’re with you today, Missou.

Ask USC how that worked out for them with Reggie Bush.

To me it worse than an NCAA and the Southern Association that accredits schools should take UNC’s academic accreditation away immediately. Doesn’t make any sense to me but that’s why UNC got off free.
The accreditation is really the only issue. There was no impermissible benefits as the classes were open to all students (even though we know the program directed the kids to the course for an easy A). If the NCAA overreached and acted outside it’s purview it would be open to what would surely be a successful lawsuit by UNC. It is what it is.
UNC did have similar circumstances in 2012 and did receive extensive punishment but it’s an imperfect comparison because UNC had some other big violations including impermissible agent benefits to the tune of about $31,000 as well as failure to monitor. This case is the better comparison and it seems to make a great argument that Mizzou was indeed hosed. The difference in punishment between the two incidents is not nearly large enough. In addition, UNC was praised by the NCAA for doing such a wonderful investigation. Mizzou seemed to get no credit for same.

It's very sad how the NCAA works. Deny deny deny will let you off and something like this will get you hammered. Smh

Yes I agree with you. I live in the Upstate of South Carolina about an hour from Charlotte and followed a good bit of the UNC scandal through the Charlotte Observer. You are correct they had some NCAA issues but there biggest issues was in what they called African and Afro-American Studies department. SACS did give them a year probation and the Governor, cant remember his name, did find the department was pretty much a sham. With that said some of their issues were not really in the scope of the NCAA guide lines because basically any student could take those classes from that department.
Posted on 2/1/19 at 2:20 pm to Icoachfb
I don’t understand much about accreditation, as in anything really. It sure seems like that would at least cause a more extensive look beyond just that department. Especially when the governor says that department was basically a phony. I guess maybe they didn’t want to find any other problems.
Posted on 2/1/19 at 3:48 pm to OleManDixon
Been through a few SACS accreditation process in public school education. Your last sentence is probably the most accurate. Nobody really wanted to dig any deeper.
Too much to type and I may not get everything right, but if you’re bored and just have nothing to do you can find Governor’s and SACS finding in the archives of The Charlotte Observer
