I say ya'll, it's coke, crawfish, no idea about sunshower, sub, etc. Jax is pretty southern still though we do get plenty of transplants.

In all seriousness, Missouri is a 2/3 Midwestern state and 1/3 Southern state. That's simply how it is. Call us "yankees" all you want, but that will never be true nor accurate.

I reckon the Bourgeois around Ladue and the Plaza throw off these maps for Mizzou. The rest of Missourah speaks some mighty strong flavors of redneck from my experience.

Kentucky people say "you all"

Majority of the people I know here even in the Northernmost part of the state says "y'all".

And to me crawdads = inedible crawfish.

Florida also is the only SEC state that loves Obama

On another note...I'm from Texas and have never used "Coke" or "Soda" as a generic term; I've always just called it what it is (Coke, Dr Pepper, Sprite).....or, soft drinks

Tennessee, North Carolina, and Virginia are in the Upper South or Upland South not the Deep South. Kentucky is typically considered a part of the Upper South but really, it's part southern/part borderland. If you're going to claim to be a part of the traditional South at least know what you're claiming.

Mizzou, is considered by many, including geographers, as a Midwestern state with a southern influence in *some* areas. Texas is a part of the American Southwest but even Tejas is different.

The Southeastern US is a diverse and unique place but both Mizzou and Texas are different from the traditional South and they're different because of different reasons.

Even W. Va and Maryland which alongside Kentucky are more disputed territory in terms of the 'traditional' South when accepted by southerners, demographers, and geographers, are classed along and as Upper South have more universally accepted claims to the traditional South despite that claim being questioned at times, especially recently.

Texas tends to get a free pass because of its founding and the myths that surround it. However, it is what it is. Mizzou's perception in the conference and perhaps beyond will change if and when it proves itself as more alike than different.

Southern culture can be found in parts OH, MI, Harlem, NY, Cali and countless other places but that alone doesn't make a state Southern.
