I had always heard dentists were #1. MDs passed them up?

I’ve always heard it’s way more competitive to get into Vet school because there are fewer schools.

There are different types of vets. If you need a good horse doctor you don’t go to a pet vet. And if need your zoo animals kept up you need a more specialized vet. UGA puts out great pet vets. UT has a great zoo vet program (tied into the Knoxville zoo). And MSU has a great cow college that is world renowned for its cheese.

In the old days, AU vet school held places for Kentucky residents.

I guess they have a need for large animal beyond what the state can provide.

Auburn’s vet school is annually ranked #1 in the country and is also the first vet school East of the Mississippi. I believe Colorado was the first.

Much more so.
"Veterinary school acceptance rates are notoriously low, even compared to medical school acceptance rates. Average vet school acceptance rates hover around 10-15% in the US. This is partly because there are only 32 vet schools in the country, partly because there are limited seats available and lastly because there are many qualified candidates all vying for those seats."

It's harder to be a vet than a MD.

I would argue what you mean is it is harder to get into a vet school than a medical school… it is a popular career and certainly hard to get into.. but that is by choice of the vet society .. if they opened it up with more schools requiring the same entrance credentials they would fill it up and they try to manage the amount of vets to insure they maintain salary etc.. sorta like our favorite river boat captains discussion…
Also not every state even has a vet school program…
But yes .. you have to be very smart to get in… I think dental and pharm school are similar???

I’m sure a lot of them are over 6 figures, or else what was the point of such a hard degree that’s comparable to an MD

UGA holds places for USC/Clemson because their state doesn't have a vet school. They also hold like 3 or 5 spots for some obscure New England state like Delaware or Connecticut.

You think $100,000 is "bank"?

You are either very young or very poor.

Edit- I guess it depends where you practice.

You make $100k in the BFE, you doing alright. You make $100k working NYC or any major city, that ain't much.

Nope, but I googled vet pay, and it says between $40-60k/year. No way that’s right either.

For a vet tech that's about right. Google DVM salary.

Some people don't know the difference.
