The more intriguing question is percentage of ginger fans, alumni, and students,

It’s well documented that one school is and has always been overran with gingers.

The List: (Highest % at the Top)

1. Auburn Why do gingers gravitate to the Wiregrass

14. Tie Everyone else - Do these schools reject them? I think they do.

Nobody likes Auburn. Nobody likes gingers. Match made in heaven or maybe hell since gingers have no soul.

The fact that it is dependent on a Facebook metric calls the entire study into question.
Of course it does Creative way to do it, and maybe one of the few feasible ways to do it at that scale, but social media in general provides so many holes to the argument.

e.g. a community college student who "likes" Notre Dame, and Oregon, and Ohio State pages on the website

Texas is the absolute worst, except for Notre Dame.

The gatekeeping is odd.

It's a new thing - I've noticed it in the last ten years or so.

Back in the day, when the Boomers were all about their sports brands, they loved to welcome a new convert.

Gen X didn't care - which pissed the Boomers off to no end.

Millennials love to talk about how you "ain't a real fan". They seek exclusivity via the brand. Boomers approve.

Gen Z cares even less than Gen X. Gen Z actively trolls the entire arrangement.

Based upon the alter explosion, you need to move UT to the bottom.

I used to know a few USM alums that went there in the 80s, but became Ole Miss sidewalk fans years later despite only attending USM. If you asked them who the current, or any of the last 4 or 5 Southern Miss football coaches were, none of them could give you any names. One was also sidewalk Bama football fan and wore a houndstooth hat as a guest at a Bama/USM game.

Who gives a shite? Ive never understood this argument. Its the same as asking what percentage of any pro sports teams fans actually live or lived in their favorite teams city? The LSU fans i know that arent former students or alumni actually spend just as much money, if not more, than the alumni i know and are just as invested in the program. Its stupid.

Now, bandwagon fans, i cant stand them.

Many of us Kentucky grads live out of state. There are over 5,000 of us in metro Atlanta. Many of us would have season tickets if we still lived there.

I still go to games in Athens and Auburn when we play there.

Why stop there?

It’s like saying you can’t cheer for Team Canada if you don’t live in Canada…

Ranking of sidewalk/t-shirt fans by bgator85

I think this is probably a combo of state population, success and general popularity. My guess is UF would be somewhere near the very top (if not at it) for the most simply because of how big the state is and being the most popular school in it.

True. But, there are so many that live in that state from other places in the country that don't give a rip about college football.
