If you've won a NC in the 1 vs. 2 bowl game era (1992-present), your previous NCs should pale in comparison.
Ranking 1992 Alabama behind 1961 Alabama is ridiculous.
That's up for debate I agree. The 1961 team was pretty dominant in its time but I can certainly see your view point. There will probably be quite a bit of debate when ranking every team's last 10 AP/Coaches/BCS NC teams.

None of those Bama teams would cross the 50 yard line on that Alabama 2011 team.

The only thing that 1992 Alabama lacked was a solid passing game.
In retrospect, that was probably to their benefit. Gino Torretta looked like shite in the Sugar Bowl.

Let's normalize the data a little bit.
Let's use AP Poll, Coaches' Poll, and Bowl Victories.
If that's the case, then the following teams qualify:
Alabama: 1961, 1979, 1992, 2009, 2011, and 2012
Auburn: 2010
Florida: 1996, 2006, and 2008
Georgia: 1980
LSU: 1958 and 2007
Tennessee: 1998
On average, each team has 2.333 qualifying seasons.
So, let's limit this to you team's top 2 NC teams that won an AP, Coaches, and a bowl game
Alabama: 1992 and 2012.
Florida: 2008 and 1996
LSU: 2007 and 1958
The rest of you. Thanks for participating, but you didn't qualify.

Maybe a Hog fan will start a "Rank your last 40 NCAA championship teams" and we could play pattycake.

I just can't see the point of arguing about teams that played 50+ years ago. I know I'm in the minority, but I really don't care about LSU's '58 championship or any other seasons that fans say we should claim. Just not my thing I guess.

From your OP:
quote:
use your team's last 10 championships in the AP, Coaches, and/or BCS only since those are recognized by all major sources
quote:So, how many titles did Bama earn prior to 1961 that meet the criteria that you set down at the beginning of the thread?
Well, if you want to check again I clearly said last 10 so that only goes back to 1961 for Bama.

To be fair to Bama, their 1937 team probably deserved the AP trophy. They lost to California in the Rose Bowl, but Cal was a pretty good team.
Pitt didn't even play in a bowl game, and they had a tie against Fordham, yet they won the AP trophy.
Also, Tennessee deserved the 1938 trophy.
Lot of bias against the South in those days.
(I take most of this back. Cal deserved the 1937 trophy. But Tennessee definitely deserved the 1938 trophy.)

Wow see there; I didn't know LSU had that many. I feel better.

For each team, are we supposed to compare them to how they stack up against the competition of their time period? If not, any modern team should be higher than older teams. Offensive lineman are so much bigger now-a-days.
