Hypothetical: If you were an up and coming coach with all of the jobs in the SEC available at the same time, what would be your order of choice from 1 to 7? (Sticking to the top half of the league)

Things to consider: Facilities, attendance, fanbase involvement/support, recent success, coaching staff, proximity to recruiting hotbeds, The AD's commitment to winning, etc.

I'm curious as to the perception of schools as they are thought of currently:

I will kick it off -- My top 7 in order of attractiveness as of 1/29/19:

1. Kentucky
2. Florida
3. Tennessee
4. Arkansas
5. Missouri
6. LSU
7. Alabama

Edit - There are only three SEC basketball "programs"

1) Kentucky
2) Arkansas
3) Florida

LSU's years of success are in most cases, quite literally, imagined.

That may be fair. It's a shame what Kim Anderson did to that program in the short term.

Florida basketball was nothing before Donovan and are trending back that way again the longer he's gone. They're way too high.

State fans will come in here soon to tell us how amazing their program is.

In the past relative past it would have been
1. KY
2. AR
3. Flo
4. others....

Now
1. KY
2. AR/FL
3. Tenner
4. LSU
5. Bama
6. Mizzou

why? Because although Tenner is trending way up with Barns as coach. They do not have the prestige, past, facilities, or wins to measure up .. but that may be changing quickly.

Why FL and AR, because although FL has the more current success, it is slowly falling off and the History/tradition isn't there yet. If they would have kept Donivan this wouldn't be a consideration.

Where does AR go from here... ? Probably further down the list with CMA as coach. IF we cut bait and hire well... look out!

You could argue Arkansas is in the top 3 of all these categories except for recent success

To be fair, Arkansas vs. Kentucky has become a rather frequent SECT Championship game lately. On a national level though, yeah.

LSU should be higher. LA has a lot of basketball talent. The traditional powers tend to come in and grab it.
LSU is a sleeping giant. Not saying they will win a natty, but to think LSU couldn’t have a solid program is false. I think Will Wade can set the foundation for future coaches. Fan support will come and LSU loves blowing money on facilities.

Eh, Thompson-Boling Arena is right there with Bud. Not sure about their practice facilities.

Yeah, the big issues are the tournament finishes. We haven't been that bad overall in the league as a whole the last 5 years.

As others have said before, LSU is a sleeping giant in basketball. I think right now LSU basketball is comparable to what LSU football was in the 90’s and early 00’s... it has just been waiting on the right coach to utilize all the resources at its disposal.

We’ll see what happens, but I think if Wade can get this program to the S16 or E8 this year or next we’re going to see a huge spike in LSU fan interest/attendance/support. I can also envision a new arena being built with the renewed energy behind basketball.

Recent success/tangible results are a big one for me.

I've got Arkansas at 4 because they haven't been an elite program in any sense of the word for over 25 years. Arkansas fans are quick to tell you how much tradition they have, which is why I have them at #4, but they don't have any recent success to point to and seem to have an over inflated perception of their basketball program from what I've seen on this board. Arkansas is middle of the pack at best since 2000. Arkansas basketball and Tennessee football are a mirror image of each other IMO. Programs that were once on top of the world but that have been humbled immensely since the start of the century.

That's not going to be a popular thought with the Arkansas fans on this board, but that's my opinion.

Small disagreement here...UT facilities are top notch

You are looking at some fans that like to sail

You are taking tRant way too seriously. Most Arkansas fans agree and are pissed about the last two decades.

I agree 100%. The only difference is that there aren't many candidates for who has a better program than Arkansas from a basketball standpoint. We have struggled tremendously, but no one else has had much success either other than the two schools I listed - Kentucky and Florida

Arkansas making fun of Mizzou. Ill say their past was great with Nolan but what has the program done since worth being so high? Mizzou has had great years in the late 00's to early in this decade. Albeit, a few were major upset losses that amounted to no hardware, but far and away better than what U of A has done recently.

Missouri's greatest team ever ('93-'94. They went undefeated in the Big 8 and made the Elite Eight) lost to Arkansas by 52 points.

All time, I definitely agree. Arkansas is the clear #2 or #3 with UF, but that doesnt translate to right now/current program outlook. There are several programs in the SEC with brighter futures than Arkansas right now.
