How about this number:

National titles

Tebow: 2

Newton: 1*

Wins

Tebow: 48

Newton: 14

Total yards in their Heisman year:

Newton: 4,327 - 309 per game

Tebow: 4,181 - 322 per game

Total touchdowns in their Heisman year:

Newton: 50

Tebow: 55

Tebow > Newton. As a leader it's not even a question that Tebow had far more integrity and was a better person both on and off the field. While Newton was stealing laptops, dodging parking tickets galore, and taking payments, Tebow was doing missionary work for people in need.

Tebow proved himself over a 3 year period despite dealing with 3 different offensive lines, losing playmakers, and losing coordinators.

Newton had one great year with one of if not the most veteran offensive line in the country with arguably the best offensive coordinator in the game of college football and getting away with all sorts of shenanigans and bad calls all year that just happen to go in their favor.

Tebow was the better player and clearly the better person.

How was Tebow a better person on the field?

I think your judgment of their character is clouding your analysis of their on the field capabilities.

Tebow was great, no doubt. But Newton did everything Tebow did, but even better.

Plus Newton averaged more rushing attempts per game (14.8 for Tebow, 18.9 for Newton). And less passing attempts per game (23.5 for Tebow, 20 for Newton). Seems to me defenses would be keying in on Newton's running more than Tebow's since he ran more and threw less than Tebow. I don't think defenses would be dropping 7 into coverage a whole lot with Newton's running ability.

This stat doesn't account for plays that were designed passes where Cam ran. So the argument is invalid

Also, when it was 3rd and 1, there were at least 10 guys in the box, because everyone and their mother knew it was Tebow who was getting the carry.

He was just as much of a leader, just as charismatic, and put the team on his shoulders just as much.

If I were a Gator fan, my opinion on this would be biased too.

Tebow had more talent surrounding him, not to mention that UF's recruiting classes are usually far superior to AU's

My opinion: Newton > Tebow ... I think Tebow will have the better NFL career, though.

charisma maybe their even, but to say newton is just as good a leader as tebow is laughable. I hate that sob but he is probably the best leader of a football team i have seen in college ball.

And Newton had 4 seniors and a junior on his offensive line. He had 3rd, 4th, 5th year players galore surrounding him. Not to mention the fact that Newton was in his 4th season of college football during his Heisman campaign, while Tebow was a true sophomore. Tebow didn't have a single other player on the roster during his 4 years at Florida gain 800 yards rushing during his years there. Meanwhile, Newton had a 800 yard rusher and a 1,000 yard rusher sharing the backfield with him.

In fact, other than Tebow, no Urban Meyer Florida team had a 800 yard rusher. Meanwhile, Gus Malzahan has never coached an offense that didn't have at least one 800 yard rusher. In fact, he's had 6 players in his 5 seasons as CFB coach go for over 1,000 yards rushing.

Newton vs Tebow cage match...
Newton wins 11 out of 10 times.
The 11th is Tebow crying after he has was kicked again.

Barring injuries, Tebow will be a starter for the next decade.

Newton will flame out/be a number 2 his entire career.

You really don't think Cam ran better than Tebow on designed running plays? Go back and watch "The Run" against LSU.

you mean, the TD with the block in the back by Auburn, which freed up Newton?

Watch the video again, as if your LIFE were involved in noticing whether there was a block in the back to Newton's left and ahead of him. Yep. there you go.

Solid list. I would put Dorsey higher on the list, he was an awesome college QB.

Why? Because he made screams Varsity Blues speeches verbatim in the locker room and then fails to deliver on his promises? Too bad Tebow could never "lead" his team through a season without an embarrassing loss(es).
