A random tidbit that popped up recently that I thought the rant might find interesting. Based upon winning percentage, current LSU coach Brian Kelly is only the fourth winningest coach, out of seven, in Grand Valley State’s 54 year history. Kelly’s 77.1% is behind Chuck Martin’s 91.4%, Scott Wooster’s 84.6% and Matt Mitchell’s 79.1%. The program’s all time 74.7% winning percentage is higher than any SEC football program (Alabama is at 73.3%, OU 72.5%, Texas 70.2%}.

I have a high school buddy who played there and spoke highly of them. He later was a state championship winning high school coach, so I always respected his football opinions.

Kelly got the GVSU machine rolling. Unfortunately, it got rolling against Valdosta State in 2002. Chuck Martin was on that staff and took over when Kelly left for Central Michigan.

Y’all haven’t found the top spot either since 2017. 2020 is as big of an asterisk season as they have.
