In 1841, the MS legislature voted to locate Ole Miss in Oxford by one vote over Mississippi City, which was on the Gulf Coast. That area is now incorporated into Gulfport near Biloxi.

I think I would rather go play at vaught hemmingway stadium in bumfrick, ms than play at reknowned tiger stadium in baton rouge, la. The history of ole miss is unmatched by lsu and the players they have put into the nfl cannot be mimicked by another sec program. I also would rather get my education at ole miss which is a lower institution than lsu in every aspect, but whatever, our stupid fans say its the other way around and i believe it. Ole miss cheats and pays players to go there and still doesn't reach the elite level. On a level/fair playing field ole miss would not get recruits to go there over the blue bloods. It just wouldn't happen. Lsu is in a different stratosphere than ole miss in all categories. Spin it how you want ole miss fans. If you were a recruit why would you choose to go to ole fricking miss? It's like iowa state for God's sakes. It has nothing to offer. Yall cheat and will be hammered by the ncaa. Meanwhile, lsu keeps doing what they do and succeed the right way. Book it

I see that the SEZ at Vaught-Hemingway got rid of the boards for past accomplishments but still maintain that they won the SEC West in 2003.
