If you think Bobo has the brainpower to effectively go from a balanced pro-style offense to some wildly open Mike Leach pass attack and do it with uber-success, you're high. Malzahn can completely overhaul his entire offensive scheme and playbook based on the QB. We were balanced in the first 5 games of the year then ran the ball 70+% of the time the last 9 games after the bye week. That is innovative whether you want to admit it or not.

God I wish we could've played LSU after the bye week. I think we'd have seen a different outcome, as we didn't realize what our offense was until AFTER the LSU game and bye week.

lulz.

I'm sure the other coaches just don't want to put up big yardage and points. I agree they could if they wanted though.

Check the offensive numbers Gus' HUNH offense put up at Tulsa and Arkansas State.

1. No, his offense is molded to the strengths/weaknesses of the team. Take a look at his Tulsa resume and you'll see he will air it out if that is the best scenario for a W.

2. Not trust, but strengths. Marshall won a couple games last year through the air, but at the end of the day it wasn't his strength. The fact Marshall was put in that situation means he trusts him. Plus, people seem to forget Marshall was, for all intents and purposes, like a true freshman QB to start the year. Gus will air it out this year.

3. He has the QB he wants, I would assume. He morphed two kids that "can't cut it as an SEC QB because transfer QBs do not work in the SEC" into SEC winning QBs, all while both reaching the BCSNC. This is strictly Gus being able to examine a team and find the competitive advantage. Unlike some coaches, he isn't afraid to adapt his gameplan.

At Tulsa, Malzahn's offense exploded, ranking first nationally in both of his seasons and setting records for passing yards.
...
When he was hired as Head Coach at Auburn, Arkansas State was 40 yards shy of tying the school record for total yards in a season (5,782).

481.8 yards per game, was on pace to break the school record of 447.8.

6.5 yards per play, was on pace to break the school record of 6.0.

5.2 yards per rush -- school record was 5.1.

437 points, 19 shy of the school record.

He adjusts to his personnel's strengths. I will say this...we will pass the ball a lot more in 2014. We have 2 really good receivers and a slot/TE who can catch anything thrown at him. Artis-Payne is still unknown. Peyton Barber will show flashes of being good. But overall our RBs are still an unknown.

Actually some coaches dont adjust to their strengths. Hmm coaches like Mike fricking Bobo who run the fricking draw on 3rd and 25. Take your red & black sunglasses off.

I think Artis-Payne showed plenty last year when he got his chances. The only unknowns are Barber, Thomas and Pettway, who all have tons of potential.

Artis-Payne fumbled the ball at extremely poor times to do so. So IMO he is still an unknown.

I get the point but I happen to think that Bobo is actually a damn good OC in his own right.

It's going to be interesting to see how the offense looks with all of these pro-style QBs in the next few years.

The only time we really got to see how the offense might change was vs FAU when JJ stepped in for Marshal to finish the game. The offense went from all-run to run with many downfield shots(similar to what he did with Cam at QB).

I don't remember that.

As good as Tre was, I know *he* had a couple of fumbles at extremely poor times though.

A Sean White led offense will pass more.

What do you think he wants to do in the future with the offense? On one hand he is taking Pro-Style QBs like Sean White and Tyler Queen, but on the other he is flirting with taking a Locksley/Gibson type. I'm not sure if Gibson could even reach Nick Marshall's passing ability.

Auburn has moved on from both.
