That was my mistake on van horn. But he went 7-23 in sec play in 2016 and has had disappointing seasons. Does that make him a bad coach?
And Vanderbilt had a few seasons in the 2010’s where they lost 25+ games. With Vanderbilt’s talent that’s not great but doesn’t mean I’m assuming Corbin isn’t a great coach. O’Sullivan went 29-30 in 2013, 34-26 in 2019 and this season is a disaster. Again he’s still a great coach.
Just because they crawled into a regional that doesn’t make the season a success. With the way those two programs recruit it’s evident circumstances arise.
It’s just dumb for an LSU fan to compare Johnson to coaches with nearly two decades more coaching experience to him. He’s still incredibly young.

You don’t have a clue.

I’ve already acknowledged the mistake. That doesn’t disprove my point. Does Dave Van Horn suck because he went 7-23 in the sec in 2016? The point of the post is to explain great coaches have bad seasons.
DVH is still an excellent coach.

DVH took over a program that was pretty bad in the 90s and had a 15 year Omaha drought.
Arkansas didn't have much baseball history prior and the brand was much smaller then than now.
It was a slow build but the 2004 CWS run believe was his best coaching job, I don't believe a single player got drafted on that team.
It wasn't until 2012 that DVH was able to get Arkansas in position to make a run to Omaha each season.
Recruiting slowly began to pick up and instate talent began to improve as well. Now just these last five years, Arkansas is recruiting top five classes.

DVH is an excellent coach. The thread is pointless though. It’s like comparing Nate oats to kelvin sampson. There’s literally two decades of results that don’t really confirm anything.
Our fans have completely lost it over this season.
Jay’s entire body of work as a head coach is fantastic-especially at his age.

Yeah, it has taken years for Dave to get the program and facilities to the level to recruit top talent and the fan support is outstanding now.I doubt we’d be close to where we are with any other coach..

I don’t know what you’re talking about but you’ve cried over a fan logo for my profile before. I have a lot of UA family and support them when they aren’t playing LSU. I’m sorry if that blows your mind.

Ummm only an Ag would think he was inferring that a pig with lipstick is a dude. You do know BJs are given by women(until you marry them). Only an Ag would assume dudes are getting them from other guys.

It helps that Dave is a former player and graduate.
back in 2003, it was a stepping stone job and other coaches would have left for better jobs but the script has been flipped.

DVH is the goat. The elites like that are rare but you definitely appreciate being a title contender for more or less 20 years.
And no I wouldn't trade one title for falling off the face of the earth like say OM or MSU. Rather be a top 3 team for 20 years consistently as that is a lot more entertainment for fans than one run and you're shite for 5 years firing coaches etc.

Honest Answer: investment
It takes 120 million a year to run a successful football program
It takes 50-60 million a year to run a successfully basketball program
It takes 20 million a year to run a successful baseball program
It’s hard to be able to consistently spread the resources and most schools want to prioritize football over everything else. Most try to atleast field respectable teams for those 3 but end up shortchanging all 3. Vandy is all in on baseball and don’t care about winning in the other 2.
Arky has enough baseball boosters to keep them for being cut in favor of football or basketball. They don’t have enough nil money to consistently win titles but are in the sweet spot of enjoying good competitive baseball.
