If you think he is such a great coach then why did you want him to leave for Arkansas.

why you, or other Auburn fans, think his offense struggles sometimes.
I'll attempt to have a reasonable discussion.
The rules aren't the same as they were when Gus' broke into CFB. IMO he is slow to adjust. It shows up in other areas, but it took him a while to admit his passing tree was overly simplistic for this level. The same mentality causes him to stick with a injured player to long, etc...
The depth issues is a reality of the SEC. All kidding aside how would uga have looked at a position where they lacked depth last season if the player went down. We were unfortunate to have injuries at the position that makes up over 60% of our O. The D masked the problem until bama broke us.
For all the weeping and gnashing of teeth by Auburn fans...Gus' O has broken every record at Auburn. In 2014 his D let him down...in 2015/2016 he failed with a QB everyone in the country thought would be great...in 2017 though things didn't finish well he still had a top 10 team in the country.
IMO Gus' biggest issues is who he has played. In CFB there are normally 3 or 4 teams in the elite category. In 2015 Auburn played 1 of those teams, in 2016 Auburn played 3 of those teams, in 2017 Auburn played 3 of those teams. Assume in 2016 and 2017 those elite teams Auburn played only totaled 1 with the same winning percentage. People would view Gus differently. In that same window of time pick another team who played elite teams that much. Since you like uga, in 2015-2017 uga played 3 games against an elite team. They lost 2 and only won 1.

That's a reasonable question. We had numerous injuries. Our weakest position was probably in the secondary. (Depth wise) and we went without several players for numerous games. We lost Deandre Baker, DeAngelo Gibbs, and Malkom Parrish for several games last year.
Kirby has done a very good job of developing delth, thank goodness.
I think (my opinion, only) that Gus' biggest failure is not developing depth. not just signing depth, but not trusting some younger players by letting them play. It caught up in the SECCG with Pettway out and Kerryon hurt. he had no one else he trusted, or was unwilling to take Johnson out when it was obvious he was hurt.

I appreciate your reasoned response, and I was not meaning to belittle Auburn, Gus or troll you guys. I have my own opinions as to what is wrong, but you know your team much better than I do, and I was curious about it from an Auburn point of view.

As I stated in a previous thread...
Please. Before the iron bowl, Auburn fans hated Gus more than anyone else. They hated him and thought he was the worst. Most non-Auburn fans think Gus is just inconsistent. There are times he can beat the best(Saban) and then there are times he gets beat by the worst. The only thing more bipolar than Gus’s record is the Auburn’s opinion on Gus himself. Wanting to fire him one minute and then giving him $49 million the next minute.
One of those wins came from a once in a million type of play. Call it luck if you will. In the other, Auburn was playing an Alabama team that was still recovering from injuries. Both games being at home also helped.

If you don't think Gus is a good coach how do you explain the 2 wins over Saban the SEC Championship and him winning the WEST 2 times in just 5 years?

I don't disagree with you on this matter. However, IMO we didn't really have a true SEC caliber back on our roster outside of KJ or KP. I am hoping Asa develops into one, but I am not overly optimistic about our running back situation in 2018.
The zone read/RPO's in Gus' O make it tougher to play multiple RB's at a time. There is a certain feel that a QB and RB must develop to correctly run the offense. With some of Stidham's struggles last year I believe that is why they wanted KJ on the field so much. He was a steadying force. Way more important to the offense than the numbers he put up...which were still impressive.

This thread is a pretty fun read now that we’re back on the standard ‘Auburn fans hate Gus’ cycle.
