"I will preface the question with this: Mark Richt's Achilles heel was that he could not beat Alabama and Nick Saban. As preseason #1, he got destroyed in the 2008 blackout game, lost the close 2012 SEC Championship game, and then the nail in the coffin was the 2015 game in Athens that was just as bad as the 2008 loss, if not worse.

You think that's why Richt got fired?

Now I'll ask a different question, how hot does Kirby Smart's seat get in December/January if he loses to Alabama again and then shortly after Jake Fromm departs for the NFL while everyone watches Justin Fields lead Ohio state into the playoffs?

Not one bit. You're orange and blue goggles are bleeding through in hopes that things start to sour in Athens. We put up with Richt for 10 years when he was only above average. Kirby would have to have several losing seasons before the fans call for his head.

And the way he's recruiting and the fact that AU is our permanent West opponent pretty much g-tee's that won't happen

Georgia and Alabama are the overwhelming favorites to meet in Atlanta this year. Will the pressure slowly start mounting around Kirby if he loses again to Alabama this year in Atlanta? "

No. We'll give him a 7 year extension worth $49 million. All the smart teams do that.

Probably not as hot as Gus's seat. Is it a foregone conclusion that Ohio State is going to the playoffs? have you told them? I'm sure they are very excited!

Now let me ask you a question. How much longer before Auburn win the SEC? Ballpark guess.

Richt's heel was not just Saban....

He struggled hard vs Florida, and constantly fell short in big games.

I notice you are an Auburn fan, but you didn't ask any questions relative to Kirby Smart and Auburn.

Odd.

He would have to have a losing record to be on the hs.

Exactly this. Jarvis Jones and Todd Gurley changed the narrative for 3 years, but I really feel like the 2014 WLOCP was the beginning of the end for him. That 2014 Georgia team was really damn good and Florida was awful.

Georgia fans will be happy as long as they keep winning the east . If Mullen starts to beat them then Smarts heat will get hot.

He's still the UGA head coach if he beats Alabama in 2015.

That 2015 team was pure crap, and the roster wasnt getting any better for 2016.

The only team that can put Kirby on the quick hot seat is Georgia Tech

Richt's achilles heel was roster management. By the end of 2012, we played Bama with 68 scholarship athletes (no...we were not on probation).

68? That's a real issue. Smart will be at UGA for a long spell I'd imagine and win a NC before too long.

"Oversigning" was the word of the day.

Our roster was targeted at 85 on national signing day.
2 non qualifiers
4 people kicked off or academically ineligible
2 medical DQ in the offseason.
We would start seasons at 77.

We had an awful 2 year run in 2012 and 2013 with injuries. Particularly of the season ending type.

Richt only cared that we couldn't be accused of oversigning on NSD.

In addition to limiting our numbers on NSD, richt's strategy was to recruit "our guy" at a position and put the full court press on him. We would show the recruit how many other offers that Bama or other teams had at that position and sell that "he was our guy". We were going to ride or die with that recruit.

Fortunately, it landed some top guys (Jordan jenkins, malcolm mitchell, Ray Drew, Isaiah Crowell etc). Unfortunately, it destroyed our DB classes. "Our guy" would still sign at Bama or elsewhere and we severely underrecruited positions (especially with kicking out/losing so many DBs such as Jonathan Abrams, Nick Marshall, Tray Matthews, Shaq Wiggins, Josh Harvey Clemons).

Kirby is a 180 on all of these methods. It is a big reason why we are having success recruiting and on the field.
