There may be other coaches who have had affairs, but Petrino would be at the TOP OF THE LIST when it comes to someone of questionable character..

For you guys trying to save him, remember Mike Dubose... It will come back to haunt you..

I agree. If my daughter was 25yo, BP would be the last SEC HC that I'd want her around.

Petrino was going 8-4 this year anyway. so when this distraction causes a disappointing season to turn into a losing season, they'll just let him go then.

She is just as at fault as he is. She should have the morals not to get involved with a married man. Idgaf what the circumstances are, you do not frick a married man. Well, thats JMO anyway.

Ahh, is someone not getting the answers that they want?

Seriously, what's the porpoise of this thread?

The "porpoise" of this thread was to see if other people thought that college football coaches in general were the positive role models that they try to promote on camera and to recruits, or if many of them have dirty secrets but are just better at hiding them. You would know this if you simply read literally the first 2 paragraphs of this thread.

Instead (as I suspected would happen) most people simply saw a thread that had the word "Arkansas" in it and decided to come in here and spout their disapproval for Petrino and his actions, the same as they have done in dozens of other threads, which not only doesn't have anything whatsoever to do with what I asked, but it doesn't bring anything new to the discussion.

Gotcha. The old, I can't convey my thoughts clearly so you must be an idiot defense. Brilliant!

I think most of us are a little more cynical than that.

Just wanted you to know we have been in your shoes. You post is worthless because no one will agree with you or feel sorry for you.

Half of Arkansas' fan base is Updyke/Bama/win at all costs/shite crazy and the other is Aggies/Cheer practice/cheerboys aren't buttboys naive.

Love you guys!

The difference is we KNOW CBP is a low character guy.

The other coaches, YOU may think that some of them have had affairs, but I do not believe we have any that we can PROVE it.

Probable easier to look at PAST coaches and I can think of one football coach who was fishing in the company pond. There have been stories about other coaches, but no articles written and NO LAWSUITS or police involvement.

Petrino was a shite bag going in. like Saban he left Atlanta in the lurch when the going got a little tough. I have no love for the falcons but what he did to them sucked. it is up to the people of Arkansas to deal with this guy. If you lay down in a pile of shite you usually get covered in it.

For the clowns I have seen on TV to say it was about his personal life and not about the job makes me sick. Honor means something, Bobby P has none.

That being said, do all of you think that your respected sports coaches are well-behaved, faithful, drug-free, law-abiding citizens? Or do you think that they just do a better job of keeping their skeletons hidden in their closet?

Your question is off topic because lying to his boss is the real issue.

When JJ kicked the Marine's arse Miles backed him. We all thought Miles was crazy just like everyone else did but Miles trusted JJ. When Miles heard JJ say, "Coach I didn't do anything but fight with the guy. I didn't do anything more after I beat his arse," he knew the investigation would clear JJ of any felony charges.

Your AD can't feel that way about his football coach now because BP bald faced lied to him to try to keep his HR violations from burning him. Now your AD is finding out BP used other state and university employees to help try to cover his indiscretions.

BP has opened the door for lawsuits from other employees and other people who wanted to be employees. Hell, he's opened up a situation where any problem that arises with a player can be challenged by the player telling anyone that will listen (media, other team's coaches, etc.) that BP is lying again.

In answer to your original question about coaches:

I actually think coaches are a lot like politicians, they start out with good intentions but the power they earn can be intoxicating to the point of blinding them. The longer one is in and the higher up one goes, the harder it is to be the same guy one was when he started out to just help some kids.

Personally I think it's imperative in order for a program to be top-notch to have a much-respected and "do the right thing" coach - from a moral perspective. Not saying Saban and Miles are priests but the character they bring to the table helps and the results speak for themselves. We are all human and make mistakes. Maybe Petrino getting "caught" being a low-life/human being will wake him and the Ark. footall program up to elite status. No judgement here.... Geaux Tigers!

haven't read through all this shite, just responding to the OP.

If CBP wants to have a mistress or two or twenty, it doesn't matter how much strange he likes, that's between him and his wife. I really don't think that's a deal anyone should be harping on because there are probably at least a few folks you sit next to in the pew every Sunday who are probably doing the same thing.

My issue with Petrino and what went down is if he hired her simply due to their relationship and essentially paid his mistress to keep close while, on top of that, lying to his employer about the incident. That brings your job into it...and that's also a blight, publicly, on the University. I really don't care who he's nailing, but if my coach were in this situation, I'd want him gone due to damage this has done and can potentially do to the reputation of the Athletic Department and the Institution as a whole.
