If this does happen, who could texas go after that would be a splash hire? Like many have said, you are guided about who to play depending on the NIL dropped on the player. That is some Jerry Jones level shite.

If Sark does leave then you can bet Manning will as well
The talk that Sarkisian has hit his ceiling, misjudged talent and mishandled Ewers and Arch is so damning even a win over an undefeated A&M won't be enough to quell.
Is there that much sentiment to be rid of Sarkisian among the orange faithful?

someone pointed out to me awhile back that the NFL really likes playcallers as head coaches. a good OC is likely to hired to be a HC immediately. so if you HC is the playcaller, you don't have to worry.

No more splash hires please. With nil and the portal it's much less important. Give me a good head coach with SEC ties that understands what it takes to compete in this conference. That's all I ask.
but if our boosters are in control, they'll swing for the fences with no regard as to whether or not they are a good fit.

I think most of us expected one more year of this before he was fired. If he IS gone, it will have nothing to do with his record this year.
While I am convinced he was never going to win it all, the last 2 seasons would have bought him another year in most fan's eyes.

Just curious, but who do you think that would be? It looks like close to half of the teams in the conference will be looking for a coach, so the SEC musical chairs should begin soon.

No clue. I just want a coach with strong SEC ties and a solid coach. I am tired of swinging for the splash hires. that rarely works for us.
We can buy players now. We don't need a celebrity at coach. We need a fricking coach.

Sounds like the BMDs are getting in the way again. That’s the culture problem with texas. With NIL they have never had the advantages they have now (and they have always had advantages). Sit your asses down, keep your mouths shut and let the man do his job…
Or help the Sooners out and run his arse off…

Just beating Oklahoma every year isn't good enough. This team is 135 out of 136 in team penalties. Our "offensive guru" head coach can't seem to field a functional offense. He struggles against really good head coaches. There are plenty of reasons to move on. Beating Oklahoma is important, but if we want more, he's not the guy to do it.
I agree about our boosters. It's why I don't trust their process to find a new guy.
The next coach may be worse. Great ones don't exactly fall off trees. But we have to try if winning it all is truly our goal. Treading water with 8-10 wins a year won't cut it. We won't get the benefit of the easiest schedule in the SEC again, most likely. We were gifted that playoff run last season. Our schedule was a joke.

it's very very difficult to hire the home run coach.
I will say this for the sips, though. If this indeed does have legs, and I think it might, this is about as orderly as you can get and I promise you they already have their guy.

That's what I'm worried about. Another hire without a real search.
and we wonder why we end up with the likes of Strong and Herman.

I might agree with you other years. This year there doesn't seem to be the obvious "splash" hire and I truly believe you can get a coach's coach from a smaller program and have them succeed in a much larger fish tank.
I think the question is, will the Texas BMDs ever check their ego and go get a legit coach with a massive upside that isn't a shiny hot name?

if I had to put money on that...it's be a hard no. I don't think they can help themselves.
We'll find out how strong an AD CDC is if he can keep them in check.

I’m not connected at all..
but Kiffin beat Kirby last year and almost did this year in Athens
He would also know if Sark was leaving as those 2 are tight.
My money is on Kiffin unless Saban or Urban are in play.
Dark horse: Dillingham

Hiring someone because he can beat one team was the reason we hired herman. He beat Oklahoma.
I don't want kiffin but I wouldn't be surprised if the boosters were going after him..He's exactly the kind of splash they want.

He also beat Oklahoma this year and last year, but I agree.
Either way, I believe this is happening as I trust Bopper after his Schloss call.
Tbd who we land.

same here. I lost a ban bet to that guy over that hire. I won't make that mistake again.
