We were a Chris Relf away from 7 or 8 wins.
I dont' think so. relf was a good change of pace but eventually most defenses started stopping the limited plays he ran. Well except, for ole miss.
He sure should have been in there at the end of LSU game though.

Nice photo CDawg. Who does your hair? Yeah Relf was a breath of fresh air for State this year. Mullen will get them going sooner or later. Cam still could pick MSU though and Mullen knows him well.

I have a friend whose sister is married to a HS football coach in the Starkville area. he has attended all the coaching clinics and camps etc... He got to sit in a QB meeting with Lee and Relf present. He said Lee knew every read to make when the coaches stopped the projector in the middle of a play. Relf on the other hand had to keep asking which receiver is the X and which is the Y etc...

FWIW, when Newton was being recruited out of high school, he camped at AU and wanted an offer... Tuberville decided to offer Kodi Burns instead.
That doesn't mean MSU doesn't lead, but it's not a foreign thought to him... playing for Auburn.

We thought Kodi Burns was a better QB than him?
Hmm

If we can keep him interested after this trip, I think he's ours.

Supposedly, the kid has a massive ego. State would be the best school for him. Auburn's fans aren't as hungry for wins as State fans are. He'd be a friggin hero here.

I don't know how to respond to that one.

That's an old photo of mine. I just typically "let it go."

Auburn has had more success than State, so it's easier to sell your program. It's not as big a deal if you don't land one great QB. There'll be more for you...For State, we may never get the chance again.

What you're forgetting here is that Tyson Lee hurt you with 13 interceptions.
You wouldn't have moved the ball as well with relf but you wouldn't turned the ball over near as much. You would have won 7 games with Relf at QB. That spread option is unstoppable for a lot of teams with guys like Relf and Dixon running it.
Have you watched Oregon play? They are going to the Rose bowl having run that offense all season.

Auburn didn't offer him out of high school. Speaking of which, why would you want to go to a program that didn't want you to begin with? I'm sure he remembers the rejection he felt from Auburn. It may not be a foreign though playing for Auburn, but it may be a more familiar thought playing for Mullen.

So what you're saying is it's a wash? Did yuo also see all his erratic throws? His int's would have been up there.

only against ole miss.

Yeah, those awesome defenses in the pac-10.

He's also the one who is seeking out Auburn without an offer.

i heard you guys were seeking him out. which is it. are the coaches interested or not.

The coaches are interested in his athleticism. He wanted to come visit Auburn. The coaches want to get to know him better before they make an offer. If he ends up with an offer, then obviously he impressed.

I hear a different story every time I talk to an Auburn person about this. One minute, the coaches aren't interested. The next time they talk, Malzahn is salivating over the kid. According to Newton himself, Luper is recruiting him. That's why he decided to come. Even if he isn't that into Auburn, he still probably took a free visit. This could be a perfect opportunity to turn them down like they turned him down.

Many Auburn fans are skeptical as to whether or not he'll even get an offer.

I don't think he'd waste his time coming for a 3 day visit to turn them down. This is a new coaching staff anyways so that kind of screws up that theory. I think there is a mutual interest between both parties and Newton is VERY interested in Auburn and the scheme Malzahn runs. Yes, Luper is his main recruiter and I'm sure he and Newton will sit down some time this weekend, talk, and if Luper and the rest of the coaches are impressed, they will offer. From what I'm hearing, he's all Auburn if he hears what he wants to hear and gets an offer.
