Just look at the teams that chose not to do a bowl this year. The years of bowl games being something special are gone.

ND and a bunch of 5-7 teams or teams that lost their coach. Not really sure what your point is.

This whole ordeal really should be a permanent black eye for the ND program going forward.

meh

They are definitely selfish assholes as a program.

But that team this year was definitely one of the best 12 teams.

Both statements are true

Yea, Dame should be left out next year as well because of what they pulled this season.

Screw them.

There needs to be some severe penalties for teams that opt out of bowls. It waters the bowls down in more when good teams choose not to participate in bowl

I doubt it’s severe enough, but the Big 12 has already fined ISU and KSU $500,000 each for opting out.

I remember Vegas pulling that game off the books. The FSU vs UGA game lol. Tends to happen when one team has high schoolers playing for the first time

Honestly, after sleeping on it, I think their presser will involve them announcing a lawsuit against the CFP and ESPN/FOX, or more than likely, it'll just be a routine event.

FSU went undefeated, and got left out.

This was an unfortunate situation. You looked bad after your QB went down. Should they have left you based on that? Probably not. But they also may have saved you from some embarrassment...although, with the defense you had I don't think you would have been embarrassed.

quote:

Notre Dame reeled off 10 wins and got left out.

Notre Dame played against 3 ranked teams (ranked at the end of the season) and lost to two of them. The ranked team they managed to beat was #24 Pitt. That is not the kind of resume that gets you into the playoffs if you are close. The ACC tried to get them to join their conference. Had they done that, they could have played for the conference championship, won and would have been in the playoffs.

Because of their poor decisions they got left out, then they wanted to complain that the ACC did not fight for them to be in the playoffs. Imagine. Complaining that the conference you refused to join did not fight for you over a team that was in the conference.

That is entitlement.

Then they go and strike a deal saying that if they are ranked in the top 12 they want a guarantee they will be in the playoffs in the future. That's entitlement.

Considering they miss a bowl payout PLUS a $500,000 fine...that's pretty severe.

So, the precedent, stated by OP, is that a team can be undefeated, lose by 3, drop, and get left out.

But certain teams can lose by 21, not drop, and not get left out.

Who’s entitled ?

So was Texas and Vanderbilt, but they got left out, and they, as far as I know, are still going to their bowl games.

ND needs to grow up. Disappointments are a part of life. We all experience them from time to time.

You'll have to take that up with the OP. I never said Alabama was not entitled. They have a certain amount of entitlement, too. But nowhere close to ND.

ETA
And i might add that Alabama got left out last year but still played in their bowl game.

That's a great heartwarming story, but doesn't reflect the reality of 2025, with NIL, playoffs, etc.

Every team and every player was faced with those same choices you cite, yet they played. In fact the overwhelming majority of those with the opportunity played.....all across the country. You excuse is just that, an excuse.

Simply no way of knowing this given their SOR and SOS.

It's an injustice to the players. They deserve to be rewarded with a bowl trip.

Nope. Entitlement is doing that with their schedule. Now THAT'S entitlement. Have you seen their schedule next year? It's beyond pathetic and damn the CFP for giving them a document that guarantees they will make the CFP every year.

Finished first out in 2024, accepted the Outback Bowl, nearly everyone played.

Finished #5 in 2022, accepted the Sugar Bowl, everyone played.

Much like Georgia has done in years they were the first out. Sometimes we played well, sometimes we didn’t, but there was no question we were going to show up and play.

Absolutely. ND has been coddled by the media for so long they have lost the ability to deal with adversity.

"I love my teammates. Why would I give up the chance to play one last game with them." That my friend is loyalty."

That was the day I gained my biggest respect for Georgia and the program Kirby is trying to build down there. Their incessant barking drives me crazy, but I love their diehard attitude!
