so wouldn't it stand to reason 9 SEC games a year opposed to 8 would do that?

Why should a 16 team conference with multiple power houses turn itself into a pretzel over 2 football games?

I think the games should be played because the fans of the schools want to play them.

Same thing with LSU-Florida. If the schools wanna play, let 'em. frick pairing LSU and South Carolina/Mizzou. Let the Tigers play who they want.

I don't know if a 9-game conference schedule would do that. They want teams in the playoffs more than anything else, and cannibalization within the conference hurts those chances.

the SEC has made some dumb decisions lately, but this would take the cake. There's no way they do htis. That means that one of the Iron Bowl or TSIO is going bye-bye, as well as one of the WLOCP and the DSOR.

Every single thing the powers that be ahve done lately is baout money. Nothing else, money. Period. So why would the league decide to play 8 conference games and lose these major rivalries, opposed to getting to play 9 conference games and keeping them?

Exactly. And with three permanent rivals plus six rotating games, you can both preserve critical rivalries, and play every other school in the conference within two years.

I was pretty clear that I want to see LSU play Auburn, Florida, and Alabama every year, but that still means it'll take 3 years to play every other team. That's unacceptable if you're removing the conference championship game, so you have to cut back on permanent opponents.

I think the playoffs were expanded to increase revenue though, and the league wants more playoff teams than anything else.

I think playing every team in the conference in a three-year span, meaning a player hypothetically sees every team, is better than the shite we have now.

We played Tennessee in 2009 and 2010. then again in 2014. Then again in 2021.

exactly. Even though I don't LIKE that all this is happening, I'd at least be content with the 3/6 for the reasons you mentioned. History is preserved and you get a bunch of new teams rotating, it's honestly a win/win for fans, schools, the league, TV, everyone. I can't envision a downside.

We know for sure it'll be one of two models. Either 8 SEC games with 1 permanent or 9 SEC games with 3 permanent. Just don't know which it'll be yet.

Agreed, but you will get downvotes from LSU fans who are jealous Bama has a rivalry with both Tennessee and Auburn.

Not jealous, I'd just like to see LSU be guaranteed at least 1 home game against a historical big 6 every year, preferably the same team over and over again.

He has Florida with Georgia, Tennessee, and LSU. Considering they also play FSU every season, that's four annual blue blood games. Nobody else has more than two. So I'm guessing they wouldn't love that. He also has Auburn matched up Vanderbilt for some inexplicable reason, and Ole Miss with Kentucky. Kentucky would probably be pissed too because they have no marquee games but still manage to miss their rivals in Tennessee and Vanderbilt.

I’m going to list the 4 we’ve played the most: State, Ole Miss, Alabama, Florida

I would prefer to keep those last 3 as permanents but am also aware that will never happen. If I could go back in time and keep the SEC at 12 teams, I would. Playing a 9 game conference schedule with the SEC as it stood from 1992-2011 would be awesome. You’d play all 5 in your division, a permanent cross division team, and then rotate the rest. You’d be able to have a H&H with the entire conference every 4 years.

But I’m sure getting rid of near century old yearly matchups to be a 16 team conference is better for the fans.
