You all have been using that you put up almost 450 yards against FSU as some sort of victory.

Why not?

Bec he still gave up 31 points. That is a bad job. There were 5 DCs, on AUs schedule, last year that gave up less offensive points.

Is there some cutoff for a good performance, like 200 yards rushing, 200 passing, and 20 points?

Well, that would have been better.

2012 we put up 51 points. We also gave up 44 points, but that can be attributed to 2 things. 1)Grantham. He sucked and everyone knows it. 2)UT had some stellar offensive talent in 2012. Bray was a headcase but dud

You have a first year DC. Let's not anoint him yet.

We have some stellar offensive talent this year as well.

quote:

In 2013 we were up by 2 touchdowns at halftime. Let's also look at the circumstances surrounding that game:

-In knoxville
-UT had a winning record, which considering the dooley years was remarkable in itself
-Wore a new uniform for the first time ever. The above 3 bullet points add up to a great crowd and the most fired up UT had been in a while.
-UGA was coming into the game missing our #1 WR and #1 RB. And yet, we were up 17-3 at halftime.

1) We played ya'll well on the road in 2011
2) irrelevant
3)it was a sold out home game against a hated rival, it was going to be loud regardless
4)UT was coming into the game starting true freshmen, walk-ons, rs freshmen and sophmores, and a new QB. Even with your injuries you still has superior talent.

quote:

Let's assume for discussion sake we are around 90%healthy. The game is at home, we out talent you across the board, and have far more experienced/proven coaches. If UT wins it would be ae monumental upset.

Well he was a first year DC at Florida State last year, and that worked out pretty well for him

So you are admitting it would be an upset, and yet, you're still questioning why most people are picking UGA over UTknox?

No one is "annointing" him. But it's pretty clear he will be a better option than what we've had. We're not expecting (or asking) him to give us a top 3 national defense, we're asking for improvement. And seeing as how last year was statistically the worst in UGA history, Id' say that's likely.

Your offense will be pretty good, but you have MAJOR issues at QB and don't have a WR on your team as good as cordarelle.

Did I say that? No, I didn't. My point was in response to your question of "how come everyone is so sure UGA will beat UT?". And my answer was because we are much better, and it would be a massive upset. Typically, massive upsets don't get predicted in June before the season starts. They're upsets for a reason.

2009 in knoxville in the last year of the martinez era. What was at the time (later unseated in 2013 by grantham) the worst defense we'd ever had.

2015 will be a better year for UT to beat UGA...not this year.

agree. It'll be on the road with either a freshman or soph at QB and a completely new offense. Defense should be stout though.

I get why most pick UGA over UT, and UT wining would be an upset, but I'm just saying don't sleep on UT. It'll be a good game, just like the last couple years.

It wasn't until our #2 and #3 WRs and #2 RB all went down to injury that UT started to get back in the game. Momentum can do wonders for a home underdog.

Don't forget about the missed fg by Morgan. He saved us at the end of that game, but they had zero momentum or noise in that stadium until he missed that field goal when we were up 17-3.

The game was in Knoxville in 2011. In Athens it was close in 2012, not close at all in 2010. I wasn't confident at all heading into the games in 2012 or 2013 against y'all. This year I'm much more confident if we are fully healthy. Last year's game really shouldn't have been close. Aaron Murray had to put the team on his back because we had so many skill position players on the field that shouldn't have been.

For sure man, I don't think we blow ya'll out. I think we win and might end up winning comfortably, but it will be a dogfight just as it always is.

I've been wrong before, but I just can't see it being within 2 possessions. We all know the circumstances surrounding last year. To say that there was some fluky shite going on would be an understatement. You can't count on Mitchell, JSW, Bennett, Gurley, and Marshall all to be out again this year. Plus, there is going to be no "smoky gray" crowd atmosphere since the game is in Athens.

2012 is nothing like 2014. Just look at this 2012 UT offense:

Justin Hunter
Cordarrelle Patterson
Zack Rogers
Mychal Rivera
Tyler Bray
And all of your OL talent

You don't have anything close to that on offense. Marquez North is good. Nobody else is close to proven. I realize you have some other talent at WR, but we both know that your QB situation and OL situation are both much worse.

Plus, UT 2012 was the first game that our entire D returned from suspension. It's not a surprise that we weren't quite together yet.

If anything happens in this game other than at least a 10-14 pt UGA win (or more), then I'll be utterly shocked.

OM, UGA, and FSU should have been blowouts.

El oh facking el. This ranks up there as one of the best statements of the offseason so far. I could just as easily say UGA should have won the game if we bat the ball down. Shoulda, coulda, woulda ain't good for shite.

The best argument I've seen you make is the Year 2 effect, but AU's situation in Year 2 reminds me much more of a similar situation from the past:

In 2005, this coach defied all odds with a magical 11-1 regular season in his 1st year as HC at this school. Not even the school's own fan base expected something this good for the 2005 season. It was a shock to the conference.

In 2006, this coach and school didn't necessarily struggle, but he slightly regressed to the mean in Year 2 with a 10-2 regular season. The Year 2 effect wasn't kind to him because sustaining the outrageously unexpected success he had in Year 1 was nearly impossible.

Name that coach and team. 2013 AU v 2014 AU will essentially be a mirror image of 2005 x v 2006 x.

Tennessee is a home game and I feel like our boys will want to get even. Kentucky is NOT there yet. The only other loss I could see happening is either SC close or Auburn close.

However both of those teams have lost key pieces. We are getting SC early when they are breaking in a new QB and defensive pieces. Georgia has a week off before the SC and Florida game this season. We have Auburn at home and we nearly beat them last year without all the injured players. Not to mention CJP will teach our secondary to just knock the damn ball down that close to the end!

Clemson, SC, Florida, Mizzou, and Auburn have lost key players to the draft. We have a new DC that has proven he can win big games with his scheme and his expertise is our weakness a season ago so I look for improvement there. We have coming back what I think is going to be a bad arse front seven on defense. We are dedicating more attention to special teams (And I think this McKenzie kid we got out of South Florida could be amazing on ST). Even with the crappy D and injuries four of the five losses from last season were a TD or less (I say again, "with all the injuries!") now we are getting back all our injured and our defense will be more experienced and hungry.. That could help us.

So that said...

There are only three games I worry most about and I feel are toss ups. That is SC, Mizzou, and Auburn because they are either away games or just flat out well coached. The rest are wins IMHO.

Curious as to what Clemson brings to the table other than a defensive line and your general negativity that leads you to believe we lose this game?

We in recent years seem to begin the year with one random choke in the first few games. Add to it we will be using a QB who was less than impressive when he took over for an injured Murray and you have a combination where I feel we will fall flat on our faces to start the year.

After that however we should only lose to the 2 teams on our schedule we should lose to (USC-e and Auburn).
