Cleanest program in SEC.

Maybe LSU has just never been caught. Considering the history of political corruption Louisiana is famous for, it makes perfect sense that coaches at the state flagship university learn a few tricks from the snake oil salesmen just down the road at the state capitol.

How many SEC defensive players have been a Heisman finalist since 2000?

Only reason he didn't win SEC POTY in 2011 was because our draconian compliance department suspended him for a game.

We might as well have been on probation throughout the CMR era
His horrible roster management coupled with our "pledge" not to oversign always put us well below 85 scholarships. In 2012 we
had 67 vs Bama's 85.

Yet he stressed that punishment could have been more severe if not for the efforts of LSU's compliance department to discover and report the violations and to cooperate with subsequent NCAA inquiries.

"The committee really felt that the LSU compliance staff and institution did an excellent job and that they assisted the (NCAA) enforcement staff in the investigation regarding these violations," Thomas said.

LSU has been put on probation 3 times - 1986 football, basketball; 2011 football; 1998 basketball.

1986 football, men's basketball, women's basketball
(probation for 1 year)

2011 football (probation 1 year)

2011 was self imposed.

1986: Dale Brown bought the kid a coat to go to his grandmother's funeral.

And he happily took the NCAA punishment for it.

NCAA hated Dale Brown

I have lots of family in Louisiana and I know what goes on there believe me. Baton Rouge is a different monster. You are not Alabama and Auburn looking over each ones shoulder. You are not Ga Tech trying to get dirt on Georgia or Ole Miss doing the same to MSU and vise versa. Or any of the Florida programs looking for dirt on each other.

I know plenty what goes on in Baton Rouge believe me. I have family that tells me how it works. You have no natural instate rival and that gives you a huge leg up. You don't want me to tell you what I know in how things work there believe me!!

LSU acknowledged the violations and recommended the penalties. The NCAA accepted the penalties and put LSU on the 1 year probation. The NCAA also put LSU in a 5 year repeat violator window. It's in the report.

As far as 1986, the report states different.

A coach paid a recruit's meal & hotel room; plus paid for his brother, sister, and bother-in-law's hotel, a couple of meals; plus a rep. of LSU athletics transported 2 recruits from their home to Baton Rouge for a camp and paid for the camp. Also gave them cash.

It's all in the report on the NCAA Major Violations site... LINK

I am proud to say that OKLAHOMA, along with AUBURN, are the only programs to win a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP while on major probation that included no bowl berth.
