Apparently I have no idea if Sexton is or not though

He sure is, I don't think I would ever hire one if he/she wasn't an attorney.

Not that I'll ever need to

Every agent gets a percentage and money talks, why would he not get all that the contract stipulates?

A former player said that there are several things Mac doesn't want to come out because he has screwed up in other ways as well before the lie about death threats.

The death threat BS seems like it's coming from a desperate man. Oh and not fighting for another $10MM in buyout money too.

Most agents are. And their ethical obligations as attorneys aside, agents cannot act out of their own self interest for future clients at the expense of their current duties to their existing clients and regarding current duties with those clients. Sexton has been doing this a long time. he is not going to risk committing pretty serious offenses over one commission.

If there is any truth in this, I think the most likely situation was that they were in a bad spot negotiation wise to begin with

I don't believe Sexton walked into the room thinking of how he was going to screw Mac so he could get more money down the line.

The logic of the source is that Sexton will make more money down the line by playing nice with the Florida AD.

Sexton to Mullen: "I just screwed Mac out of a buyout so you can get more money, therefore, you should go to Florida so I can do the same to you after you win 2 division titles and Stricklin decides to can your arse too."

100%

I'm sure there is obviously somthing in the contract. Just because your agent works for a candidate up for a job you just lost/moved on from does not equate to him saying... "Well, frick you, I'm looking out for me and not all my clients". Pretty fricking dumb to think there would not be something contractual from him doing that, IMHO.

Florida prob has enough for a prima facie case for cause. Sexton can fight it, which provides an avenues for everything to come out, or quietly settle it. The settlement allows Mac the opportunity to keep his reputation as clean as possible and doesn’t end his ability to coach in the future.

This argument is stupid. Let's say UF comes after Mullen and gives him $2M more per year than State is. To replace the lost commission on the $8.9M difference btw contract and accepted buyout, Dan would have to be at Florida for 4 years (assuming no raises) just to get Jimmy back to even on the deal.

I'm not buying the Sexton angle on this. That's not how it works and, honestly, that's possibly malpractice on Jimmy's part that could subject him to suit and/or impact his dealings with other clients who wonder "is he gonna fight for me when the time comes, or just look out for his own 'long-term interest'?"

Yes.

The notion that Sexton wouldn't want to jeopardize his clients is utter foolishness. Look at his client list. In any conflict between him and Florida in all this, Sexton has the position of power, not Florida.

Sexton has been milking every dollar he could out of these universities for years...now suddenly he's helping them out? bullshite.

Good luck to Florida getting a top tier coach if they're in Sexton's doghouse.

This situation isn't really all that complicated. Mac shite in his own hat. The best thing for all parties is for UF and Mac to settle quickly and move on.
