Here's my idea for the SEC
Pod 1: Florida, Georgia, Vanderbilt
Pod 2: Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee
Pod 3: USCe, ATM, LSU, Arkansas
Pod 4: Kentucky, Missouri, Ole Miss, Mississippi State
Pod 1 or Pod 2 is combined with either Pod 3 or Pod 4. The pods rotate every year.
There are 9 conference games.
Everybody in Pod 1 plays everybody in Pod 2 every year. Everybody in Pod 3 plays 3 of the 4 teams that are in pod 4 every year.
This way, you play every team in the SEC at least once every 2 years.

That's not a bad idea...
...assuming you've suffered a recent massive head injury.

Add a 9th conference game and take away a cupcake game. Play everyone within 4 years. Helps with the attendance issues too

Stopped reading as soon as you posted this stupid shite.

Overthinking this a bit bud. Just rotate 2 instead of one permanent. The historical Rivalries will still be there.

No one cares about your pods. Go eat a Tide Pod.

4x4 pods
Pods pair up yearly (3 year rotation).
Winner of each "group" is the SECCG team - resulting in more interesting cg matchups.

Why aren't Vandy & Tn. in the same pod?
Posted on 8/17/19 at 1:55 pm to Fairbanks
So it's a 10 game schedule for teams in pods 3 and 4? That's dumb as frick.

No...
Pod mates = 3 games
Pod 1 or 2 = 3 games
Other Pod (3 or 4) = 3 games
9 games total.
Now, WHEN do you play that 4th team from other pod, .....no clue.
Unless you go:
Y1 - ABC
Y2 - DAB
Y3 - CDA
Y4 - BCD
Unsure how that works with the 5H/4A & 4H/5A format.

But both pods 3 and 4 have 4 teams. The way OP structured it teams in pods 1 and 2 would play 9 games, teams in pods 3 and 4 would play 10 unless they skipped one of the teams from their permanent cross pod. Bottom line, the pod system only works if you can divide the teams evenly, so add 2 more teams.

(S)he said that in the OP.
I, too, prefer 4x4 pods.

No, nobody plays 10 games. The OP is describing what some here know as "The Roommate Switch" model. Here's a little more detail regarding how it works with 9 conference games per team:
Each team has 5 permanent opponents
The POs for a team in a 3-team pod are the other 2 teams within that pod and all 3 of the teams in the other 3-team pod.
The POs for a team in a 4-team pod are the other 3 teams within that pod and 2 of the teams in the other 4-team pod.
Each year, all teams play 4 non-permanent opponents
In any given year, the 4 N-POs for a team in a 3-team pod are all 4 teams from one of the two 4-team pods.
In any given year, the 4 N-POs for a team in a 4-team pod are all 3 teams in one of the 3-team pods plus 1 of its 2 N-POs from the other 4-team pod.
By switching the pods (changing the two 7-team divisions) every year or every other year, all teams are able to play all 8 of their N-POs twice every 4 years.
........
This model works with 8 games too. With 8 games, all teams would have 3 permanent opponents. For those in a pod of 4, those 3 teams would be the others within that pod. For those in a pod of 3, they would be the other 2 from that pod plus 1 of the 3 from the other 3-team pod.
Those heretofore unfamiliar can work out the rest of the details of the 8-game option from there. Suffice to say, as with the 9-game option, the 8-game option allows all teams to play all of their non-permanent opponents exactly twice every 4 years, and within a divisional framework.

But HOW do you do the H/A where it's fair?
If you flip every year, the same teams are set for 5 H, but per you, they would have the same opponents...how do they rotate the sites too?

southernboisb, I'm not sure what you're asking. Are you asking how all opponents can switch where they play each other every time they meet? Or are you asking -- if teams are playing 9 games, how do you prevent teams with 5 home games from having an advantage over those with 4? Or are you asking both?

I'm getting myself lost.
Say you're Team A of group 1 of 3 teams.
Every year, your group 1 of 3 teams will always result in 1H/1A. Either group of 4 pods will result in 2H/2A. That now has you at 3H/3A.
This now falls to the schedule with the other group of 3 pod. If A plays: D, @E, & F...that makes 5H/4A. B would play: @D, E, @F. Unfortunately, this now has B with a 4H/5A schedule.
Therefore, there is NO WAY a whole group of 3 pod to have the same H/A setup.
So, basically, ONLY 1 group of 3 teams & 1 group of 4 teams can have the 5H together...correct?
This make sense?
Hince why the Roommate Switch WILL NOT work for a whole pod to have the same H/A setup.
