I like numbers & appreciate the explanation, but devil’s advocate 247 talent composite means about as much to me as a midseason AP poll.
I disagree with that.
Recruiting rankings for an individual player mean little. But if you take them for a full roster of players (especially the composite rankings which are from multiple recruiting services) then they do give a good estimation of what talent teams have.
Yeah, some are misses of 4 or 5 star players but you also have hits on 3-star guys and it evens out.
It's not perfect, but it's a pretty good way to see how talented teams really are.

We thought the playoff would suck some life out of the regular season — nope.
Not sure we can really "nope" this. The fact that UGA, Texas, OSU, and Bama have all had an early season loss (2 for bama) but all are still in great shape to make the playoffs kinda goes against the sentiment in OP. Texas and OSU are stone cold locks to still make the playoffs so their big game losses are practically irrelevant. Throw clemson in that same boat as well. They got shellacked by 31 points to a good SEC team and will now cruise through a shite ACC...their pantsing to start the season may as well have not even happened.
I do agree that this season has been fun I think the main reason is because there isn't that ONE team (which is usually bama...) that is head and shoulders above everyone else. You can say NIL is the reason for that and that's cool. But I mean..look at the top 10 right now; Oregon/UGA/PSU/OSU/Texas/Tennessee/LSU/Clemson are all staples of the top 10 yearly so that's not anything remarkable. Miami being up there is not typical but anyone watchin them can see they are certainly not the 6th best team in america. Then you have a couple of legit "good for them"s in Iowa state/BYU/Indiana not far behind. Definitely a fan of seeing schools liek that being ranked where they are but let's not kid ourselves...at the end of the season it's still gonna be a handful of big boy schools at the top same as always.

It’s really not. The same teams get all the talent every year.

Iowa State is going to make the playoffs and lose by 40+. Their schedule is a G5.
They are 7-0 & the only FBS team they’ve played with a winning record is 4-3 Iowa whom they beat by 1. The ONLY ranked team they’ll play is to end the year vs kState at home.
The fact they can get in over an SEC 10-2 team is a joke.

We thought NIL would gut the poors and kill parity… seems it has raised the floor instead.
No team is rich enough to buy every 4-5 star recruit and keep them on the bench. All NIL has done is make the money changing hands above the table and now more teams are in the game being it is legal.
Yeah, I agree with most everyone that NIL actually makes more teams competitive.

It has made it more like the NFL and NBA. The players don't really care unless it is a big game, leading to more upsets. It was hard enough to get them up to play a bad team, but now it is almost impossible. Rat poison everywhere.

Can you give me an example of a team that sucked before NIL+Portal but is now good?

I don’t disagree completely, sentence from captdalton post above sums up my thoughts

It is interesting to look at. You can see who should be relatively good. But it isn’t a measure of how good a team actually is.

I think the first round BYE is huge though, and I won’t be surprised to see upsets in the 12-team format.
Obviously it’s a little different, but my point is it still feels like every conference game is immensely important.
Hell, ask an LSU fan if they feel like the season opening loss matters.

It was more enjoyable when it was under the table. Kept the amounts in check as well.
But the real problem is the yearly ability to transfer. It is too much. I can't keep up with most of the players on the teams I like because they change each year. It's not good for the sport.
