Jimmy has been the most powerful agent in sports for what seems like 2 + decades now. I imagine he’s getting ready to buy the bigger island in the Pacific that’s next to the smaller island he already owns. I just can’t remember this guy ever losing. He always has his clients a step ahead and seems to get what he wants. Just like this AU search. Kiff gets a raise and extension and Freeze gets a fat contract and is back in the SEC. Literally the best possible outcome for him when this search began.

Anyone can be an agent. Schools and pros bend over and give them everything. Nothing hard about it.

Pro tip - hire an attorney and keep 19.5% athletes.

Yep. Even if we both lose he will win. Especially if we both lose.

Random joe schmo attorney isn’t going to be able to pull a Sexton out of every deal.

He negotiates multiple deals every year of this kind, with his thumb on the scale due to the number of coaches he represents, with school administrators that negotiate 2 or 3 off these deals and that are spending other people’s money who, in general, have very little leverage in the negotiations.

The deck is stacked heavily in his favor.

Sexton is a 1982 graduate of Memphis's Evangelical Christian School and the University of Tennessee, class of 1986.[2]

quote:

He signed his first contract as a Sports Agent in 1984 with his client, Hall of Famer Reggie White, who was also his college dorm mate.

quote:

White became the highest paid defensive professional football player at that time.[4] In 1987, Sexton became one of the youngest agents ever to be licensed by the NFL Players association.

quote:

Sexton is one of the few agents to represent both players and coaches.[6] He represents some of the top NFL stars: Sam Darnold, Julio Jones, Laremy Tunsil, Derrick Henry, Philip Rivers, Daniel Jones, Jason Witten and Ndamukong Suh among others.[5][7] He represents 11 of the 14 SEC head football coaches and 7 NFL head coaches

So frick Tennessee for unleashing him upon the SEC!

He’s fast coming up on heart attack age with all that extra weight.
And if he either smokes or is a heavy drinker his chances go thru the roof.

Jimmy always gets paid, either for the new job his clients accept or the extensions they sign with their current schools. He has no Ls and there really isn't any way he can take an L on any deal

The story is:

His dad was a big booster at Tenn and he used Jimmy to pay Reggie White for him. They were roommates @ UT.

Not really Tennessee's fault. Dude had the great fortune of connecting with Reggie White and representing him when he was in the USFL for the Memohis Showboats, and he parlayed that into everything else he's done.

You have to respect his game. There is a reason he is the agent of most the top coaches.

During a coaching search just ask yourself what would make Sexton the most money and that's probably what's going to end up happening.

It has to be $20mm + per year when you add up 10% of all of his clients.

Jimmy's agency, CAA, is going to get that 10%. I'm sure as a partner of that agency he has a massive salary and takes a percentage of the deals he personally closes, but he's not getting 10% of every deal. CAA is a massive agency with a couple thousand employees and represents more than just athletes. Forbes says he's worth $31 million and has 75 total clients with around $1 billion in contracts.
