Cal doesn't like these tournaments because they benefit veteran teams and the match ups are referred to during the seeding process in March, its to his advantage for his team to not rack up too many losses to other tourney teams in November-December.
He schedules neutral site games to get the benefit of the neutral site record without having to rely on the luck of the draw with the pairings in the tournaments.
If he didn't rely on one and done recruiting he would have Kentucky in the highest profile tournament possible every year.
It is what it is and a smart strategy for a coach with a young roster, just like playing in them is a smart strategy for a coach with a veteran roster.
