If [insert player] had more [insert stat] than pistol pete, [insert player] would have more [insert stat] than pete.
Of course they would.
If Arkansas has more points than MisState, Arkansas would have won.
Heck, if bball goals were 6' instead of 10' I'd be a hall of famer
Gawd this board is braindead.

Pat Riley never lived a day on this earth where he was a better basketball player than Pete Maravich.

There’s a reason Pat Riley called him “soft” on defense and the most overrated superstar in the NBA

Riley said that when he was a coach, of which he’s a consensus Top 5 of all time

My point stands, no matter when Riley said it.

He really put LSU on his shoulders and carried them to… one NIT tournament.
67/68: 14-12 (8-10 SEC, 6th place)
68/69: 13-13 (7-11 SEC, 7th place)
69/79: 22-10 (13-5 SEC, 2nd place)
Here is my favorite Pistol Pete stat. He set the record for points scored in a game at Alabama on February 7th, 1970. He scored 69 points. And LSU lost. He took 78 shots that night (57 field goal attempts + 21 free throw attempts).

Maybe I just don't like a guy criticizing someone whose jock he couldn't carry.

The SEC leader in assists that season by a wide margin: Pistol Pete Maravich.
So he did have help or no? The other guy just said he had no help.

Pistol's senior year team at LSU went 22-10 and finished second in the SEC.
And the rest of his career how did he do?
Let’s be honest, dude chased stats his whole college career because he and his daddy had one goal: Get him to the NBA. Winning was not the priority for them. If he did this at another school you would be saying the exact same thing everyone else is saying. You’re only defending him because he did it at LSU and y’all can’t handle any criticism, even for players from 50ish years ago.

Didn't he average something like 40 shots per game?

This right here.

And now we are back at square one. I just pointed out how ridiculous that is.
By your logic Bronny James and Metta World Peace are better authorities on basketball than Mike Kryzewski

None of those guys actually played against each other
Riley got torched by Maravich, but ripped his defense. Nobody hired Maravich to play defense.
