No he had the best season of any QB of all time that doesn’t make him or any QB who does something for one season the greatest of all time. That’s a ridiculous statement.

Watson and it isn't even remotely close.

Alabama's 2015 and 2016 defenses were really good; but they weren't even Alabama's own top 3 in the past 10 years.

That's 2011, 2012, and 2017.

Watching the LSU Bama game in 2011, I felt like those were 2 of the best defenses ever and both teams deserved a NC because of that alone. We just had the terrible luck of having that defense in the same season Bama did.

To this day I believe there is no way either of those teams beats the other twice in the same season.

Probably not, honestly. I imagine they'd split 50/50, but every game would be won on some other weird set of plays. Missed FGs, defensive scores... hell, one would probably be won 6-4 on nothing but safeties.

I'll take Watson. Burrow didn't play a defense that's in the same stratosphere as 2016 Bama.

Burrow hung 42 on the #9 defense (Florida), 42 on the #6 defense (Clemson) and 37 on the #3 defense. Take away the 559 yards he hung on them to go with 46 points and Bama would have been a top 10 defense as well.

Watson. Is this a serious question?

I'd be surprised if you had it any other way.

Quick on your own upvotes too I see.

A lot of OSU fans felt their team last year was their best ever. It just happened to show up in the same season as a historically great LSU team and a very talented Clemson team.

Joe Burrow did have the best single season a CFB QB has ever had. Prior to his season last year, I would have said that went to Cam Newton. Newton was a good (not great) pro. We will see how Joe does.

Overall, Watson had the better college career though.

I never understand when someone says one QB "out-dueled" another. You understand Burrow was never on the field at the same time as any of those guys and nothing they did impacted what the other did when they were on the field? Burrow didn't "out-duel" Tua, Hurts, or Lawrence. He "out-dueled" Bama's defense, Oklahoma's defense and Clemson's defense with the help of some very very talented cohorts.

It's really not a fair question because nobody in history has ever put up Watson's performance in two national championship games.

He had 2 insane performances against two extremely top tier defenses. Without him Clemson gets smoked in both of those games. With him they instead lost a very close one and won a very close one.

Burrow had a great championship game performance too, but LSU won easily going away. He could have played a mediocre game and I still think LSU wins.

Nah, he probably has more upside than anyone, and I’m glad we have him. But he’s got a long way to go in his playmaking ability and accuracy before he joins the other qb’s in this thread. He needs to work on keeping his eyes downfield when scrambling in order to throw once someone breaks open, and also needs to work on not letting the ball sail high. He does that on a regular basis.

He’s still young. I think he will be fine.

I'd pick Watson because of what he's done in the pros. It proves that everything he did at Clemson was 100% legit.

Now, Burrow was incredible last year, no doubt, but he doesn't have the track record that Watson does.

Give Joe a couple of years in the pros to prove how good he truly is and I might change my mind.
