Points scored is an overrated stat. Maravich took over 38 shots per game in his college career. There's a reason his LSU teams weren't very good despite his record scoring.

This is a perfect example of an idiot without a clue commenting. The absolute most amazing skill Pete possessed was his passing. Teammates and opponents raved about his passing ability. Just an absolutely asinine comment.

saw Bird against Wilkins in the Superdome in 180985 when Bird scored 60.

I’m thinking you might be lying here, because although it was in New Orleans, it was at UNO’s Lakefront Arena not the Superdome. Because I was actually there and it was spectacular.

He should have passed more and shot less then. He just wasn’t a very good player in college because of the way he played and that’s reflected in the success, or lack thereof, of the teams he played on.

More like Maravich wouldn't sell out to China like LeMao.

He wouldn't have the chance because he'd never be that big today.

Maravich wasn’t even the best player in the SEC while he played. That was Dan Issell.

Just keep doubling down n your stupidity. Pete went to LSU so his dad would get a head coaching gig. His teams were overmatched by the much more talented teams like Kentucky. Ask the guys who played against him, like Dan Issel, how great he was.

Pete did some ridiculous things on the court because he was so confident and skilled. No look passes, heck, no look shots.

He was very good and I’m sure others picked up some tips from his game.

And I remember his hair spray commercials.

He was a pretty big thing back then.

This might be the most ignorant statement on this site in ages. We could compare stats, but it would be pointless as it is laughably in Maravich's favor. Lets do one anyway. Maravich could have skipped his senior season in which he averaged 44.5 a game and still had more career points, made more all-american teams, and been SEC player of the year more times than Issel.

And when touting a guy as being better than a player who outscored him by 20 points per game, you should at least spell his name correctly. Its Dan Issel.

All time leading scorer at UK was a woman (Valerie Still)

When both Pete and Dan played, freshmen could not play so both just had 3 years of scoring.
