The reality is no team was going to get their top 3 choices.

The third game for each team was always going to have to be used to balance the schedules.

Some teams are the top pick for 3 or more opponents.

Vandy wants to play Tennessee.
UK wants to play Tennessee.
Bama wants to play Tennessee.

Do UGA and UF want to play Tennessee as one of their top 3? Sure... but Tennessee can only have 3 teams and you have to give each team at least one bone.

Texas is another big one. OU, Arkansas and A&M all want to play Texas every year. Would Mizzou or LSU want that too for one of their 3 games? Perhaps, but it's bigger for the other three teams.

For LSU, Ole Miss and Arkansas are named games (Magnolia bowl and battle for the boot). If the only option to switch is A&M... I like A&M vs LSU and Bama vs MSU (where both matchups have some juice) rather than A&M vs MSU (who have little history) and Bama vs LSU.

So...In a 4 year period, everybody will play everyone home and away. Thats better than we have now. I'll take it

only reason LSU did not get any of those three teams is simply because it would’ve been too much of a hardship for those teams because of their other rivalries.

You might not have looked at Florida's supposed opponents

They could and should be playing LSU instead of either Kentucky or South Carolina.

I would’ve traded Arky for Florida. Overall, this is a pretty good balance though. I can’t point to one where I feel like one team got a gauntlet (ala Florida 2025). The SEC did a decent job overall with this.

Nope, nope. And they even won the first SWC title.

quote:

The SWC officially came into existence on December 8, 1914, when the original eight member schools agreed on a constitution for what was then known as the Southwest Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Those eight schools were Texas, Texas A&M, Baylor, Arkansas, Oklahoma University, Oklahoma A&M University (now Oklahoma State), Southwestern University, and Rice, which was admitted provisionally.

Only started playing those 2 every year since 1992. Played our 3 perms close to 100 yrs straight,.UF would have been my pick if the 3 perms were changed. It would be UGA , but we beat them 9 in a row when the series started. while Spurrior was beating us regularly....

So Auburn fans don’t want to play Vandy. That’s fine with us. We take Kentucky and you get Florida. But don’t be cry babies with Alabama, Georgia and Florida as your 3 perms. You asked for it.

I really hope this is false. Not having Auburn or LSU as our #2 is just wrong.

It's a glaring mistake when Florida and LSU have the opening. Also notice how some big programs like Tennessee drew two easier opponents while some smaller programs like Kentucky, South Carolina, and Vanderbilt drew two major programs.

I spoke too soon. Looks like we will get Florida and GA every year. I will miss the mazoo game. Always a wild close game and their fans are great.

Was like that for many years and Auburn fans welcomed it.

I wish we had Florida.

Arkansas: Absolutely, want to play them every year. While it's been one sided as of late it is a real rivalry.

Ole Miss: Acceptable, would rather play Florida every year, especially if they ever get good again

Texas A&M: Meh, underwhelming and uninspiring, should be Alabama, Auburn, or Mississippi State

5 perm is the solution to make most happy.. some people will never be happy

How do you get to 5 perm?

18 teams
9 game SEC schedule
5 perm + 4/4/4 rotation

or

20 teams
4 perm + 5/5/5 rotation

or

21 teams
5 perm + 5/5/5 rotation
some don’t want 10 games tho

or

20 teams
2 divisions

SEC Old
SEC New

And I wish we had Kentucky. Lexington is a beautiful city and makes a wonderful trip.
I would love to have Auburn play Alabama, Georgia and Florida every year, and in addition Texas, LSU, Tennessee, Oklahoma and Texas AM very frequently.
