They are paid, tuition, room/board, all the food they want and a stipend.

Because it seems that the only way to truly pay these players based on the “value they bring to the school” is to completely frick up college football at its core and turn it into a giant bidding war.

Its already a giant bidding war. People just want it to be above board and not under the table. The top players that want get paid all get 10s and 100s of thousands dollars.

College Athletes work hard and are robbed of their opportunity to work part-time jobs, spend all of their time studying, and sometimes even social activities that “normal” college students take for granted.

Yes football players get treated better than athletes in lesser sports (I was an NCAA swimmer and we didn’t get even 1/100th of the budget football had) but on the flip side when they’re making that much money for the school, with as hard as they work I don’t think it’s ridiculous to pay them at least a part-time employee’s wages; something sustainable that all FBS schools can handle regardless of stature so as to not totally break what competitive balance we have in the sport.

Those, poor, poor, athletes.

Every single person on this board who wasn't a scholarship football player at a big school would trade his college experience to have been one. That's all you need to know.

Y'all are well on the way to completely killing everything you loved about college football with your stupid playoff expansion, super conference, and paid player talk.

I loved college football because the University of Alabama had a team. They will still have a team if players are allowed to get paid.

I don't think I would.

1. I wouldn't want to be a college football player.
2. My 1st 2 seasons would have been Shula's last and Saban's first. That sounds like 2 miserable years.

any more and it might just become NFL lite.

it already is - except players like Tua are forced to come back for their junior year despite being a top draft pick as a sophomore, risk their careers and don't have any choice in the matter with the whole 3 year wait. NFL needs to step up and help fund their farm system IMO. It will be a complicated endeavor, but it needs to be worked out.

ETA: And that doesn't even broach the risk of CTE and the like which is becoming more and more apparent.

These kids won the physical genetics lottery and they want more. I'm smart AF, but I can't get gourmet meals paid for, travel all over the country for free, get other free shite treated like a king for being smart. No i have to go work at a bar or doing some dumb shite on campus for minimum wage to pay for ramen noodles. People don't buy me drinks, people only want to hangout with my when they need basic algebra done. Do these college athletes pay me back? no they don't.

They need to get off their high horse. Shits gonna get real when they didn't pay attention and blow out a knee and are stuck being package handlers with a knee brace cause they didn't pay attention in college.

You can if you play your cards right, or maybe you aren't as smart as you think you are.

Why do they need to do this? You think players in a "developmental" league are gonna get the same coaching, facilities, competition and training as they do in college?

How much do you wanna pay em?Are they gonna be able to train year round?

Do you think the NFLPA would put up with the owners spending millions on a league and players that are eventually gonna take their jobs?
