People who want athletes to be paid obviously don’t remember being normal college students

Or never went to begin with. First off I don’t give a shite about the Odell thing outside of hoping LSU gets in trouble because I’m a Bama fan. But anyone who honestly thinks these athletes aren’t treated like gods and don’t have the world handed to them has never been to college or is too far removed. They get free education, gourmet meals, free travel, and the opportunity to live like kings. They’re the most “privileged” students on campus and the “slave labor” they perform is envied by every average Joe on the Quad. It pisses me off to hear them whine as I’m working at a fricking fruit stand to cover my books.

TLDR: College athletes fit the definition of “privileged” and I’d give my left arm to be where they are.

Cry more.

You earn the university nothing, so you get nothing. Those who earn the university millions with their research advancements and other contributions get grants, financial considerations and are treated differently than you as well.

Nothing they are getting is free, they are earning it.

You're just ate up with jealousy and envy.

Are you pulling in millions for the school?

No?

Then shove your views up your arse.

One more thing, you sound like a privileged entitled child.

You don't have to give your left arm to be where they are; you just have to put in the hundred(s) of hours of working out, practicing and development which was invested to earn what they have.

You entitled fricks didn't work for it but love talking about how you wish you had it.

We’ve read your posts before...we know you didn’t go to college. Maybe University of Phoenix.

Well shite if I’m this wrong then I’ll admit it. I know these guys work their asses off day in and day out. Maybe it is jealousy at work but shite I will tell you that those guys get propped up as kings on campus and I have no problem with that. But to say that they’re just a bunch of poor college kids getting whipped on their backs is insane and is what gets promulgated by a lot on the other side.

This was definitely a dumb reactionary post after reading the bs around the players getting money from Odell. I’m gonna let it stay up though because it’s what I believe deep down about most of this back and forth over players being paid. I don’t think they deserve any less than they get but any more and it might just become NFL lite.

Ystar, exactly. They are earning it. We are capitalists after all. If you’re good, then you earn more, right?

The cat is out of the bag when college football coaches are the highest paid government employees in basically every state.

Who are the "entitled fricks"?

I'm not defending the OP,but plenty of people attend college who either make their way through be it by academic merit, employment while in school, selling their soul to student loan debt, or a combination of the three.

How are those entitlement scenarios?

You're entitled if you feel you should get something you didn't work for.

When you have people mad that they aren't getting what others are getting when they didn't work for it?

Man, that is entitlement issues.

Do you imagine an equal system of payment across the board where every student athlete receives a payout depending on that team’s revenue? Or a blanket payment system adopted by all colleges to make it fair? Because it seems that the only way to truly pay these players based on the “value they bring to the school” is to completely frick up college football at its core and turn it into a giant bidding war.

ETA: I’ve never said I deserved what they had. I said that the media and sometimes the players themselves want to paint it like ,despite their hard work, they’re treated the same as an average college student. That is not the case.

I think the people in this thread are seeing this as some a-hole college student demanding to experience the special treatment of athletes. I’m not saying they don’t deserve their privileges but they are, in fact, not having an “average college experience” and that’s how it should be.

So if he only worked harder he could have been good enough to play football for Alabama?

he didn't say that

He said athletes get plenty not that he should get what athletes get for doing nothing. How exactly did you interpret what he said as entitlement? It was pretty much the opposite

The Odell incident doesn’t amount to a hill of beans. The NCAA can’t worry about nor police “comped” meals, cash handshakes, etc. Much of it is a sham today.

College athletes aren’t privileged! They work their asses off. Weight training, meetings, practices, “off hours” reviewing the cut ups of practice, etc. Then there’s the games, risk of physical harm, permanent injury, rehab.

I remember being a college student. Athletes should still be able to make money off of their name. Academic scholarship students are able to, so should athletes.

Odell can walk up to any non-athlete student and give them $2k and no one would ask any questions except maybe the IRS. Athletes should get the same opportunity.

So because they get laid more often they shouldn’t be compensated for generating millions in revenue for the school?

I agree, it's a ploy by non-graduates of these schools to either feel more connected to the football team or to make money off the program. Terrible, terrible trend.
