Every other coach at every other school was free to sign as many players as they wanted as well. It wasn't just Bryant who had this luxury.

I realize that, but partially due to it's success, Bama had the money to do it. Also, factor in the number of kids who wanted to play for "Bear". Bama used the ability to sign an unlimited number of players to it's advantage. Not bitching about it, just pointing it out.

He also gets far too little recognition for his part in the integration of football in the south.

All I know for fact is a lot of "Boosters" steered a lot of talented Football Players to Bama. This was in the 60's and possibly the early 70'S.

Coach Bryant was never caught involved in any of this or did he wilfully condone this.

I won't name Names who played for us during this time except Scott Hunter which I already mentioned on another thread. Remember also there was no reporting agency like Rivals.Com or others to give evaluations on up coming recruits. The Boosters did a lot of "Recruiting" then Bear or Assistants go talk to them and their Parents.

Bama got most of the State's Best Recruits every year because the Athletes and their families were Sold on Coach Bryant and he did on occassion make deragatory statements about Auburn to keep his stable Full.

Today this doesn't work. Unless your a consistant winner at the top of the Game Recruits have too many choices now...

I seriously doubt we will ever see a coach as dominant for that length of time ever again.
Remember the name "Dan Mullen".

Damn, I would have bet any amount of money that a bama fan was going to say "Nick Saban" first to that comment.
