Mainieri announced his retirement after the SECT, but you knew that already
You mean that same LSU team that Vitello went 5-0 against that year with a regular season sweep of LSU? Vitello scared him off!

Almost as bad as hiring Will Muschamp after he got canned from UF

Paul had a lot of neck and back pain issues and spoke about it as the main reason why he left.
You dumb tenner fans obsessed with vitello are classless fools to think otherwise.

SC fans can make themselves think this is the way to go, but I’m shocked.
No SC fan is making him or herself "think this is the way to go," and no SC fan gaf if you're shocked.
99% of us are pissed about this.

Are you sure? The USC 247 board is dancing in the streets over this. Not sure why they think Terry Rooney is so elite too tbh. I liked him at his role at LSU

It's over. I just left the meeting. He's got the votes. We tried hard .... but it's over. He'll be announced soon.

Those big commercial network boards are full of children.
Rooney is the good part of this deal, we all agree. Keeping Monte and this Class together is a good part too ..... I could tell when I left that the votes in favor were because of those two factors.
Paul is being hired, and approved, to bring stability back to the program. To calm things down and to get us back on track. They're hoping that Monte or Rooney might grow into his replacement eventually .... but in a positive way.
In the meantime, Paul is going to stabilize things I guess.
It's a bad business decision imho but it is what it is.
Everything was said that needed to be said in the discussion and I could tell ... they're probably voting to approve the deal when we left. I could tell.

I think you or someone else mentioned yesterday that there was one other candidate. Can you share who that was?

I like SCAR better than any other team in this conference, but this is not going to end well.

There were two others ... one more than the other.
It's spilled milk now.
All Gamecock fans have to get behind thus hire. It is, overall, on paper ... a strong staff. Should be a Top Ten class. The "developmental" aspect was answered for some ... although, I did not consider Virginia the standard in that regard.
Maybe the answer will be the massive increase in NIL money that was agreed-to ... who knows.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hope to live long enough to see us bring home a couple more titles.

Not unless he actually believes he’s the successor to Vitello or is waiting for a bigger job
I can't imagine he plans on waiting Vitello out. As for a bigger job, this isn't football or basketball. Carolina is one of the biggest jobs in the country in baseball. Unless he's holding out for Texas or LSU.
I suspect Tanner wanted to hire someone with a track record as the head guy in the SEC, given how his last two hires worked out. This is a weird choice, but with the staff he's brought in they should at minimum recruit well enough to be better than what we got under Kingston.
