USA TODAY SPORTS logoPaul Finebaum rips Mississippi State coach Mike Leach: 'A lot of people didn't want him'
Mike Leach and Mississippi State went from being the talk of college football for all the right reasons to being the talk of college football for all the wrong reasons in a matter of weeks.
SEC Network radio show host Paul Finebaum was the latest to chime in after Mississippi State followed up its season-opening win over then-No. 5 LSU with back-to-back losses to Arkansas and Kentucky.
"This is trademark Mike Leach," Finebaum said Tuesday on ESPN's "Keyshawn, JWill & Zubin."
"You saw it when he was at Washington State. He would have a big upset and then throw it all away the next week. That has been his career. That's why a lot of people didn't want him. Plenty of schools had a shot at Mike Leach."

Leach never beat a ranked opponent and lost the next week while at Washington State, but it happened five times when he was at Texas Tech. Leach's record against ranked opponents while at Washington State was 6-22.
Mississippi State has another chance at a ranked victory this weekend against No. 11 Texas A&M (2-1). It might be safe to say Finebaum doesn't have much faith that Leach and the Bulldogs will get it done.
"It's worth remembering a couple of years ago that Tennessee was on the verge of hiring (Leach) after Butch Jones," Finebaum said. "The AD went out there and agreed to a deal. When the administration found out about it, they fired the AD. That's how toxic Mike Leach’s reputation is with some administrators.
"It's great that he beat LSU a couple of weeks ago, but I'm starting to wonder if beating LSU is that big of a deal considering that Mississippi State has done it and so has Missouri."
Mississippi State set an SEC passing record with 623 yards against LSU but failed to combine for that total in losses to Arkansas and Kentucky. Senior quarterback K.J. Costello threw five touchdowns and two interceptions against the Tigers and has thrown one touchdown and seven interceptions since.
The 24-2 loss to Kentucky marked the first time in Leach's head coaching career that his offense did not produce a score. The Bulldogs' points, of course, came on a safety.
Slide 1 of 15: LSU wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr. had 11 receptions for 235 yards and three scores in the Tigers' loss to Missouri.

and we all listen to Paul for our news and he tells us how to think too...
We all understand that. Except that at least two schools wanted him and he had pretty decent success at both over 18 years of time.
It is pretty easy to rip a coach three games into his tenure especially after two disappointing games. But he will do a good job here just like he has done before.

Yes did you read the whole thing from the link? It was very interesting! I am glad Missouri didn't hired him and I never did wanted him at Missouri. The problem is he is lazy. I am starting to see that. He does not expand his schemes. X and Os are bland and predictable. That is why your former OL coach went to missouri after L:each was hired. He waited until who was hired and then took the Missouri offer.

Just post the actual article so I don't have to a shitty made website like MSN.

Remember when Saban's sorry arse lost to La Monroe the first season at Bama? I can't believe we kept him after that. What a bum.

Leach isn’t saban. Only our dumb arse coaching stuff would lose to leach after 1+ month to prepare for him.

Saban had a national title and multiple conference titles.
Imagine comparing that to a coach with zero conference titles who’s employed at a school with zero conference titles.

Especially on a team that won 6 games last year and lost 14 starters and trying to run an offense without the proper personnel at WR and didn’t even have spring practice to implement the scheme.
LSU game was a surprise and we got over excited. Fact is nobody including us expected to be worth a shite this year including us. Turns out LSU is just awful and we are as we expected. It’ll take Leach a couple years to get his players in there

Why do people continue to post Finebaum material like it’s gospel?
Leach is an awesome hire and he’ll create many more upsets. Glad to have him in the SEC.

It hilarious watching people on this board slurp up Mike Leach after beating LSU. Never was fan of his, I mean you may get a chuckle from his oddball quotes. He goes to schools with low expectations find a measure of success followed by below average seasons when predicted to accomplish something.

At least they got to feel hope and optimism for a week. Some never get that feeling.

You're not wrong Paul, you're just an a-hole.

The biggest problem was that so many people ... including Leach himself ... went ape-caca after the LSU game.
Honestly ... while you never want to say a loss is preferable to a win, winning that game right out of the box, against the particular team they beat, probably was the worst thing that could've happened.
I'm a big Leach fan ... of the man, not his teams ... and I told everyone in posts then to chillax, it wasn't going to be so easy moving forward.
I thought State would be lucky to be .500 this year. I still do. It's going to take some time.
But if the expectation is that he wins immediately or the whole thing is a failed experiment, then go ahead and fire his arse and quit wasting everyone's time, including his.
The main reason college administrators hate Leach is that he sued their buddies at Texas Tech after they wronged him in that mess with Adam James in which he was 100% in the right. Has nothing to do with his performance as a football coach. You mess with people's metaphoric "fraternity brothers," you're persona non grata.

The 13 other members of the SEC will be perfectly happy to let MSU have "decent success" from now until eternity.
Lest anyone forget, you were the first team to be ranked #1 in the very first CFP rankings that came out in 2014.
May you enjoy "decent success" for many years.

I almost imagine it would have been better for Leach to lose that LSU game, he could then at least hang his hat on the "takes awhile to install my system"
Beating LSU elevated him to some God-tier coaching status and now he's come back down to reality.

Looking at his record at T Tech and it flows with the expectations of what most reasonable MSU envision for the program, so Paul can shut up.

frick Paul.
Who takes his arse seriously anyways?

It isn't just this board. But we will see on Saturday. I think we win on a fluke. Then lose out the rest of the season.

Mike Leach is doing fine, particularly defensively. Everyone of these morons probably picked them to be 1-2 after 3 games. But like it totally must mean something because they so far have greatly misjudged Arkansas and LSU.
