Forde is a Hack, however he has some valid thoughts in his article.

Cal has thrown the players under the bus way too much, deflects criticism of himself constantly, and neglects the fans questions as if they are complete and utter idiots.

Both are arrogant jerks. Cal is a great recruiter, decent coach.

Just imagine someone like Pearle at KY, or Marshall, or even Billy D. WOW! Talent and coaching ability, and ability to handle the pressure of being the HC better.

Link?

Welp, you are an idiot. His resume at UMASS, Memphis, and Kentucky speak for themselves.

A decent coach couldn't do what he did at Memphis or UMASS. A decent coach doesn't only miss the elite eight twice in the last 8 years.

Pearle at KY

Had a losing record to Billy Gillispie, who was run out of Kentucky. Cal only lost one game to him while at Kentucky

Marshall

We have no idea if he could handle the Kentucky job and what it brings with it. His resume isn't nearly as good as Cal's

and your stupid, WOW, we can both play this game. It really didn't make me a better person for pointing out your stupidity. In fact, I almost brought myself down to your level. Almost!

What happened to those illustrious records following his leaving? Awwww, Cheater we see. Recruiting infractions as well. Great Coaches do not continually deflect blame during hard times, they steady the course, inspire, encourage, and lead. Cal heads out the door, cant handle the pressure very well and acts like an arse.

It is what it is.

They are still there. The Final four may be gone at Memphis, but all of the conference championship elite eights and sweet 16's are still there.

Memphis wouldn't be in the American conference if it wasn't for Calipari

What recruiting infractions? He had a player take money from an agent and played a player deemed eligible by the NCAA. If you want to delve deeper into these I will gladly comply.

Try to paint it any way you can but Cal was never named in either of them. Neither program was charged with a lack of institutional control.

All I know is this: Calipari spends way too much time yelling at his players and the refs during a game. HE recruited the players and has trained them...so HE is to blame for their shortcomings during a game. Look at other ultra successful coaches and you wont see constant yelling during a game about where on the court they want their players to be...if properly trained...the players should know.

In my book...Calipari is a great salesman and okay coach.

Seriously like 90% of college coaches do this

No where near the level of Cal. You would never see either one have to physically push a player in to position.

That was obviously him losing his cool. It isn't like it is usual behavior from him. He said he has to coach this team like he is 35 again.

Boeheim lost his shite at the end of the Duke game and pretty much lost his team the game.

That was a one time thing, and Boeheim took full responsibility for his actions.

Say what you want about Cal and his methods. He got Kentucky their first National Title in over a decade and will win one again sooner than later.

Pat Forde blows. He said NC State was a better football head coaching job than Auburn.

Lol, seriously?

Forde is probably the prime example of sports writers being the ultimate prisoners of the moment, though he's among the worst.

I'm sure he'll be all over Cal's nuts the next time Kentucky is in the Final Four.

The NBA surprisingly has a lot of good young writers out there, but other than them I completely agree.

Unless it is a local beat writer they are all pretty terrible. Just a bunch of people trolling for web traffic.

The 21st century sports media has also perfected the art (nay, idiocy) of being prisoner of the moment to quite literally EVERYTHING in sports. Mike Vick is a sociopath, then all of a sudden he's rehabilitated because the Eagles were doing good in 2010. Roethlisberger is a tPOS serial rapist in early 2010, then he's suddenly a remorseful good guy when the Steelers make the Super Bowl. Cal is a job-hopping used car salesman after leaving Memphis, then he's a visionary after winning the NCAAT in 2012, then he's an idiot again after getting bounced from the NIT last year. LeBron is a choker, then he's the greatest player ever after winning a title. Eli is a bust, then good, then a bust again, then elite after a second ring, now overrated again.

It goes on and on and on. Essentially the only writers anymore who aren't beholden to the moment and actually have a little objectivity, pragmatism and insight are the guys at Deadspin.

He won't. He has a legitimate hate of all things Kentucky. Has as far back as his writing stint at the Louisville Courier-Journal. The only reason he ever plays Kentucky up is if UofL is a direct beneficiary of the hype.

What's the dispute? Or, rather, what's the logical counterargument your extensive CBB viewing brings to the table? As far as I can tell, Cal's teams aren't particularly disciplined; gets away with running very basic, easily defended sets on offense because he can out-talent and out-athletic the opponents; have a terrible FT shooting percentage; and have ridiculously underperformed relative to their talent level recently. He's a decent coach, not a great one. He's a great recruiter, no question, but the fact that he managed to get on the dribble-drive bandwagon a few years ago, back when it was still shiny and new, doesn't really make him a great coach or an innovator imho. But you seem fairly convinced of his greatness, so it'd be interesting to see what you have to offer (and please don't resort to "he won X games and went to X Final Fours" -- we already know the numbers. I'm more interested in observations of his actual coaching.)

Forget what Forde is or isn't, but what he has to say has a lot of truth to it. The SEC is a very weak league, and has been for several yrs now. Playing in this conference with his talent & to end up in the NIT last yr, not off the charts to say he won't again this yr, speaks to horrible coaching. As to Forde's attacks on Cal's persona, there are many good reasons why he's not liked in the coaching community, many openly disliking him as a person. And to think that his hands were clean at both UMASS and Memphis, consider that at both places his star player had serious issues. With a 13-14 man roster, do you honestly believe he had no idea what his two best players were up to, day to day to day? You honestly believe that he had no idea Derrick Rose had issues, Rose, the national high school player of the yr?
