First off what year are you? If you're a junior or senior, then you won't want to go to Fraternity Row and just go straight to the bars. We have Pikes, but they are a bunch of meatheads who like to start shite. Here's the bars on the Square:
1) Library- This is the biggest and best bar in Oxford that contains a sports bar, a dance floor, and a two story patio/balcony room. However cover will be expensive since this will be the biggest gameday of the year. If I had to guess, it would be a $20 cover. If you get there around 7:00, you can get in for free and then they'll start handing out wristbands for free right about then. Once you get your wristband though, try another bar and come back at around 10:30 or 11:00.
2) The Burgundy Room- All in all this is my favorite bar to pregame at and its right above Old Venice Pizza
3) City Grocery- One of the restaurants in Oxford also has one of the classier bars. The drinks are more expensive, but it has a good pregame atmosphere.
4) Rooster's- A big bar with good Blue's Music and good food.
5) The Levee- If you are under 21 and its not rented out, this is a good place for you to go drink for the whole night if you aren't going to hit up Frat Row. There's also a bar downstairs for the 21+ Crowd called the Cellar which is pretty good.
6) Funky's- This is a New Orleans style bar next door to the Library that sells alcoholic slushies and sells great pizza.
7) Downtown Grill- I would not recommend eating here since it is easily Oxford's most overrated restaurant, but it does have a great bar for pregaming in.
8) Irie's- This is a bar that has 20 bars on tap and is a decent place to pregame. It also carries giant liter glasses for you to drink out of. Has decent seafood as well.
9) The Blind Pig- This is located in a basement of roughly the same building that Downtown Grill is located in, but on North Lamar. They fix some damn good sandwiches to where this certainly isn't a bad place to eat and shouldn't be as crowded as other places. This bar also has pool which is a plus.
10) Taylor's Pub- Never really go here, and its ok from what I hear.
11) Proud Larry's- Fun bar, has decent food, and is on the South Lamar side of the square. Has good music.
12) The Rib Cage- Good place to grab some BBQ quesedillas and sassauge plates, and the basement has some good grub.
13) Frank and Marlee's- Oxford's Piano bar is always a fun time, and something I recommend. I wouldn't recommend the food though, because everytime I've been its been disapointing. Its in an alley way behind the rib cage and can be hard to find.
14) Varsity- A sports bar across the street from the Rib Cage has surprisingly good food and would be the place where I would reccomend for you to eat since it likely won't be that busy for people looking for something to eat. All in all a really fun bar.

This, like the Levee, is an under 21 hangout. If I were underage I would go here over the Levee

Yeah the levee has gotten gay, if you wanna see the 18-19 talent go to taylors. Frank and marlees is cool, roosters is cool. But if you are 21, the library is the place to go.

ut, in case they suck what`s the best plan to get the most out of oxford? What bars are the best on game day weekends?
Friday night - I cant believe I am about to post the best kept secret in Oxford on a msg board but here it goes ...On fri nite the burgundy room (bar above old venice pizza co) is 2 for 1 everythang.....everythang?? EVERYTHANG! It has one of the best balconies in Oxford and always has verrr nice trim. My peoples drink there then head over to the Library around 1030. I know I know...bars close insanely early and it is the epitome of ghey.

Do you have a greek row or is it spread out?
The SS is in the south EZ (the bowled-in end) and is just general admission seating everywhere. Be wary of coppers.
quote:
Do ya`ll have lambda chi or pike?
Dont have LC but we have Pike and if trucks that look like they belong in a high school parking lot and fighting peak your interest...Go Pike.
Hope you have a splendid time and for the love of everything that is holy...don't drive drunk or even mouth off to a cop. They are the worst I have ever seen.

Getting kicked out of the same game twice will make you very wary of coppers

Hate to break the bad news, but burgandy room isnt 2 for 1 on football weekends. however drinks are still reasonably priced. the building is very narrow and can get annoyingly crowded but snag a table and you'll have a good time. junior/senior/just graduated crowd.
irie is a fun place and theres lots of tables for groups. roosters is fun early in the evening, but its kind of turned into the sophomore/junior bar.the new blind pig is more of a local crowd but isnt miserable. they had good music the one time ive been.
thankfully library hasnt been charging $20 for games this season. but like other people said, go early and get a wristband, go drink somewhere else and come back about 11. thursday nights they'll start charging about 8:30 to 9, friday and saturdays its just whatever they feel like.
