He couldn’t recruit the south.
He did recruit this however:

Muschamp and Beamer
Beamer’s had 3 winning seasons in 4 years and is 2-1 in bowls.
Auburn’s last winning season was 2020 and they haven’t won a bowl since 2018.
South Carolina won 5 SEC games last year. Auburn won 6 in Freeze’s entire tenure.
If Freeze had merely produced the same results as Beamer, he’d still be Auburn’s coach tonight,

although McElwain somehow did win an East Division title.
He won two then got fired at the end of year 3.
Kind of like Bill Curry at Alabama. He had good success but was 0-3 vs FSU.

Mike Price & Mike Shula was pretty bad. One guy didn’t even win a single game.

Yep even with our crappy hires Napier was the first to totally crap the bed. Most of the rest except Zook at least had some double digit win seasons due to us having a good defense that year

Don’t know about back to back but Mike Price at Alabama was a pretty bad hire.

He was a good hire on paper.
Then, you know, titties.

Post Stallings at Bama was pretty damn bad.

Pussy STILL undefeated.

Harsin was by far the worst. At least Freeze recruited and left us with a fairly decent roster.
Well, he wasn't provided much incentive to stay in the hell hole created from the onset. Maybe, the man just said frick it and rode it out to a paycheck because of the incompetence and interference.
And, by your logic, Freeze produced similar results with huge NIL and recruiting investments. So, is Harsin a genius to stick it to the man while Hugh was incompetent with a better roster and investment of resources?

I'd bet the # of 10 win seasons, Division Titles and SEC CG wins are pretty close to AU from 1996-2006, which is the worst period since the 50s for Alabama.
It would be like someone in 1975 saying, well those Ears Whitworth years sucked for Bama.
Simple fact is the Mike years did suck, but in aggregate they were still what a lot of SEC programs would settle for.

Butch was a good hire until the wheels just completely fell off in 2017.

A better LSU team softened them up for the IB.

Houston Nutt 2008-2011 24-26
Hugh Freeze 2012-2016 35-19
I've underlined the coaches with special needs. Hell Tubberville was in Oxford while we were on probation.
Nutt was 18-8 after two years

Orange pants and Game of Life. Those were some weird years in Knoxville.
