I really wish people would shut up about Deion until he actually does something. I’ve never seen such overhype for any coach ever. It’s beyond ridiculous and it’s making me get to the point where I can’t stand the dude.

Not a great time to sit there when he's literally asking you how you're important to the program.

I watched part of the first one and my first takeaway was if he didn't know what the support staff did he might be in over his head. Imagine being the boss of a company with what, 150 or so employees, and not knowing what some of them, maybe 25 or so, do??? He has exactly what, 3 years coaching experience at the collegiate level at an FCS school. If he had been coaching at the P5 level in any capacity he would have known what to expect in the way of support staff and would have most likely met the "boss" of each group one on one to establish expectations etc. Instead it seems like a group interview to see whats available. Wouldn't give me warm fuzzies if I were a CU fan or administrator. He has awlays done well at everything he has ever done but what I saw in these videos indicate he is in way over his head....

I've said in this thread (and multiple times on this board) that I believe we don't really even know if he can truly manage a program — maybe he can, maybe he can't.

I wasn't a fan of his when he played at Florida State, and this isn't a fanboy or "hype" post.

I just think it's interesting to actually see a real staff meeting like this, and as an outside observer, I thought he handled it impressively relative to my expectations.

In other words, I still don't know how he'll do, but watching this made me think he actually might be a better leader than I originally thought. I don't see how there is anything ridiculous about that.

Totally can see that.

I took the opposite approach and thought it was refreshing that he asked each staffer what their actual role was beyond their titles, and gave them some early expectations.

If I was hired as a Fortune 500 CEO, I would almost guarantee that there would be positions on that organizational chart that I've probably never heard of. Likewise, he's probably coming from a place that doesn't even have the money (or need) for some of these staff positions.

He's presumably trying to trim the fat from a losing program.

Oooof.....there is trouble brewing for the moose and the squirrel. He seriously just called the DEI "honey" and several other women in the room "sweetheart" LOL. Dieon is in for a shock on a woke campus LOL....that ain't gonna fly even a little bit. He also mentioned having a comfortable place for everyone, not specific groups. The problem is that I would bet that the University is responsible for the equity and inclusion group and the people within the university plus the vast majority of the CU community are all in on diversity and inclusion manifested in the manner Dieon initially intrepreted it...making the place comfortable for black folks. Boulder is a great place but it is about as woke as anyplace on the planet....and those people hold all the power at CU. They may not be overly represented in the AD (unlikely but maybe) but you can rest assured that the university administration, the student body and the boulder and university community over all is comprised of a majority of folks who are jockeying to see who can virtue signal the most and they ain't gonna stand for women being subjected to being called honey and sweetheart for long.

I had a 65 year old man who worked for me hold the door open for a female professor at UGA about 30 years ago. You'd have thought that man tried to force himself on that woman. This was 30 years ago mind you. I, as the owner of the company that person worked for, had to attend sensitivity training or we would be barred from bidding on work at UGA. The gist of the complaint was that she was perfectly capable of opening a door herself and did not need a man to open it for her. I mistakenly called her ma'am during this training and I thought the eyes of everyone in the room other than me were going to roll from Athens to Miami....I could have jumped up on the table, dropped trou and peed on that woman and they would have been no less shocked and incensed. I told them I would talk to the man but he was 65 years old, grew up in the south and would probably never learn it was wrong to hold a door for a woman no matter how capable she was. Had it not been for good pricing and good service we seriously may have never been allowed to submit bids on work at UGA again. Dieon is already in trouble and don't know it yet but it will come to the surface....people bent that way ain't accustomed to living and letting live....

Everything you've just said is totally ridiculous.

And unfortunately, you are probably 100% right.

I have a feeling that winning will miraculously cure most of this, though. If he doesn't, you make a great point that this could be what ultimately gets him (and I really don't like that thought, despite of how I might feel about Deion).

he has no reservations talking about his religious beliefs, and I am glad to see that. and will be interested to see how that goes in Colorado.

It'd be fine in Colorado in general, it is going to ring VERY hollow in Boulder LOL. Boulder makes Austin look like 1930s Munich. Fort Collins is much more akin to a southern university town and Mike Bobo, another southerner like Sanders, was never a good fit at Colorado State in part due to his being a typical southerner. The fine folks in Boulder will be conflicted to begin with because they will have to be nice to the black man to remain PC but that will wear off soon....it always does with that type of person....and Dieon's "quaint, charming, southern ways" will morph into backwardness and worse. I have lived in the western half of the US and I am about as middle of the road as a person can be....and most of the people out there would consider me a mouth breathing knuckle dragging reprobate, unreconstructed welp of a whore to the KKK LOL. Initially they will accept Dioen and he may be able to win them over but his open christianianity will be accepted at best, it will not be appreciated and will, at worse, be a barrier to success. Seriously, if you haven't lived among them you have NO idea how seriously judgy and prejudiced those people are. I have lived amongs knuckle dragging white folks in the south who were horrible human beings and they were more accepting of people different than they were than the people in Boulder, Denver, and almost all of the western US. Even the ones who claim to be conservatives are, at best, merely left of center.

He doesn’t stand a chance… That place is way too white for him. Should’ve waited.

Seriously may be the whitest place in the United States. That will initially work in his favor as they will be falling all over themselves to prove they are more accepting than Jesus but it won't last long and his calling women honey and sweetheart is going to create a problem sooner than later. There is one thing you can count on from woke folks and one is they will climb a tree to prove they are the best person on the planet when they could stand on the ground and simple be a good person and they will change their minds about what is right and wrong as conditions and the masses dictate. The first woman to complain about being called sweetheart will be ignored as will the next few until the first hint of adversity sets in and then they will come out of the wood work and may well run Sanders out of town on a rail, tarred and feathered. Time will tell but it is like oil and water having a decent person like Sanders wading into that woke environment.....

They don't stand a chance against the woke masses in Boulder and the CU community.....the only chance it works, and it ain't out of the question, is if Sanders produces IMMEDIATE results. If he can win the PAC 12 and the Rose Bowl by year 3 he may have a shot. If nothing else goes wrong....if the honeys and sweethearts dont get him ran off or the religion before he can produce on the field. Seriously, there is no less accepting group of people on the planet than a bunch of University folks, especially in places like Boulder. They will be very accepting initially because he is black and they can't go there but they will eventually unless he has reached a level of success to keep them at bay.

CU is a good match for the PAC 12 in that winning is not the bar by which they measure success. It is more about being the most virtuous or at least more virtuous than most. Winning ain't going to be the balm in Boulder that it would be in a normal college town and no where near what it would be in a place like Athens or Gainesville. Auburn just hired Hugh Freeze and outside of anti-Auburn folks using his past as a means of making fun of Auburn very few people truly think Auburn shouldn't have done it because of his past....he would be hung in effigy if not actually in Boulder or Seattle or Berkeley. Seriously....we have a history of ill behavior in the south which is well earned but we are far more accepting of people who are different but good people than folks in places like Boulder are....you have to toe the line with those people, being a decent person ain't enough you gotta be exactly like them and be offended by everything and willing to destroy anyone who is slightly offensive to you. It'll be interesting.

Met him in 2011 on his way to Canton. He was traveling through Louisville and stayed with his TRUTH youth football team. He reached out through the news and people in the area and played my team.

Lost 16-12 but it was a good experience for the boys. About 5,000 people showed up to watch 5-6th graders play on a shitty field in Louisville. He spent some time with my kids complementing them on their play, and ripped his kids a new a-hole afterwards.

Cool experience I guess.
