Woodward lived up to his reputation of sparing no expense to land a household name. But this is a name Alabama coach Nick Saban and Georgia coach Kirby Smart are familiar with, and one who shouldn’t concern them.

15 million a year sure doesn't buy what it used to.

Kelly won close to three-fourths of his games at Notre Dame, and that was enough to enjoy a successful 12-year tenure, but the Irish regularly flopped in their biggest matchups. LSU's standard for success is loftier.

Lot of money for a coach whose team flops on a level exceeding tOSU. Personally he aint the guy to beat Saban and Smart routinely, or even regularly. Also not a cultural fit. I reserve the right to say "I was wrong." and I'm not above it, but I don't see it working out.

Incoming LSU blowhards about how great BK is.
Totally disregarding all opinions about him prior to 24 hours ago.

We're just gonna keep going with this even though the actual numbers have already come out?

Somebody had to write an article saying Nick Saban shouldn't be concerned with Brian Kelly? Um, everybody already knew that.

The Kelly hire is fine, but what I'm really enjoying is all the melting and blubbering by my fellow SEC brethren.

Thanks. It means a lot!

Yeah, I don't think his name even appeared on this board until he was already hired.

Saban doesn't worry with anyone including bama fans, so yeah...

LSU beat Kriby Smart routinely with a shrimp boat captain, stop pretending that Smart is in Saban's league. To date he has not even accomplished at UGA what Les Miles accomplished at LSU.

Forget the numbers then. What's a coach that lost to Cincinnati at home worth? Legit question.

One of my degrees is from Valdosta State. We are 4-1 in D-II national championship games since 2002.

That one loss was to Brian Kelly who was the coach at Grand Valley State in MI. He won the D-II championship in 2002 and 2003.

He then moved to Central MI and won there and on the Cincy and then South Bend.

The guy has won everywhere he's coached.

Maybe there is room for some concern for an upper-midwest guy coming to the South, but he recruited nationally at ND, and frankly, LSU is more concerned with a national championship than academic reputation.

LSU hired a coach who’s 0-2 against Saban with a margin of defeat of 73-28; 0-2 against Smart; 1-3 against Clemson’s Dabo Swinney; 0-1 in home games against Cincinnati’s Luke Fickell; 3-5 against Michigan; and 0-5 in New Year’s Six-level bowl games, plus a BCS national championship.

Oooof.

If the topic is Brian Kelly, Kirby has 2 wins over him in the past 4 years.

Or is a coach being 0-2 against another coach not important any longer?

What is the coach that lost to South Carolina lead by Will Muschamp worth? Legit question.

Brian Kelly has never had LSU talent.

Hes had to recruit with his hands tied behind his back with Notre Dame restrictions.

Hes 100 times better than the coach we just had that won a national title.

Hes 100 times better than the coach we had before we had the shrimp boat captain and that coach also won a title.
