He made a point to get the owner's blessing before he left.

Agree, but I think this debate is assuming he signs contract after SECCG. As long as he is in the bag and we know what our staff looks like (and more importantly, recruits know what our staff will look like) Smart coaching through Jan or not is really just affecting Bama.

I think recruiting dead period runs through mid January anyway.

Georgia should say if you want the job, you'll be the Head Coach Monday morning, not January 12th.

Richt is coaching the team in the bowl game so it seems to me that something can be worked out to where all parties are satisfied, particularly considering the recruiting dead period.

If I am not mistaken Nick and Kirby have the exact same agent: Jimmy Sexton. My thought is Jimmy and Kirby have taken Nick's thoughts heavily into consideration to what occurred before, during, and what will occur now that Kirby has actually taken the job. I don't think anyone should believe Jimmy wouldn't have thought this through as he negotiated on behalf of Kirby with Georgia.....OR Nick might be re-evaluating that relationship very quickly...IMHO

Also, I read where Richt made a point to offer to stay on through the transition and make sure UGA recruits stayed on board and do whatever to assist the transition. I am confident the UGA admin. will make it worth his while to do just that.

Depends on what Kirby told UGA. He may have said, "I start at UGA after Bama's last game." On the other hand, he may have told them he'd start next Sunday. I wouldn't like it, but I also wouldn't be able to blame him if that detail was a deal breaker in him getting the job or not.

He left in the middle of the night immediately and announced he was leaving and taking the bama job after he left town.

Saban resigned from the Dolphins three days after their final game of the 2006 season. So yeah, he finished out in Miami. Funny...being "Tiger n Miami", one would think you would be knowledgeable about such things. So who's the "idiot" here?

He's still pissed about the Iron Bowl...and he's a butthurt Fins fan to boot....Saban has him all rustled.

You are the idiot. Saban left immediately and late at night the day he made the decision. He didn't wrap up anything, meet with the players, other coaches, etc.

And to recruit at UGA quite frankly means recruiting against Alabama. It's just not a situation that would make sense. It's best for him and best for us if he just goes on to UGA and starts his tenure there.

That would make sense for both parties involved.

Losing the DC for the playoffs does not sting nearly as badly with a guy like Saban as your HC.

You know, I've always wondered if you really are this stupid. Now you've just given more evidence. Youtube clips abound of Saban arriving at the Tuscaloosa airport in broad daylight. Hell, you were probably one of those barners who made fun of the drunk woman who kissed him at the airport.

I still don't understand how staying for the last game isn't finishing the season at Miami.

You have to understand the moron who posted it. Clips all over Youtube of Saban arriving in Tuscaloosa in broad daylight...but it's the middle of the night in Miami?

Kirby may be faced with this situation almost every year as long as he stays at Alabama, and he can't just sit on his hands out of loyalty to his players if he ever has aspirations of coaching at a major program. there is no way he'll be in position to become the head coach of a batter program than georgia unless he thinks he'll be able to take over at alabama upon saban's departure, and i just don't think alabama will mhire an unproven coach to take over. this may sound bad, but sometimes you have to be a little selfish and do what's best for your career. smart would be foolish to let the georgia job slip away because he wants to coach at alabama through the end of their season

My guess is that he stays until Bama's last game. Anyone have an example of a coordinator leaving a school for another before such an important game(s)? I'm not saying there haven't been cases...I just can't think of any. I'm not talking about a coordinator leaving prior to some shite bowl game.

Mullen stayed on as UF's OC through our NC run in 2008 despite being hired by Miss State. Tom Herman was hired by Houston in mid December but stayed on as OC for OSU last year. Mac to CSU, etc. I'm sure there are others. This will be interesting to see what Smart does, but I bet he stays until Bama's last game.

Agreed. Kirby isn't going to stick around at Bama if Georgia doesn't want him to. It's too big a position. Plus, I'm not sure it would work anyway.
