It’s a double edged sword.

You can’t have the guy in your building recruiting kids to other schools instead.

But if you fire him and have an interim coach for the bowl game, he’ll do the same thing if he doesn’t get named the HC. He’ll just make a deal to be a coach somewhere else and tell the kids to go there.

Sexton has effectively told Lane that this is his last chance to "go to a blue blood."

Has to be the dumbest move by anyone since Günter Schabowski misspoke about people being able to cross the inner German border back in 1989.

It is as simple as the difference between Ole Miss demanding it and Ole Miss requesting it.

The last thing Ole Miss needs is to be in limbo on this.

Being the last program standing when this coaching cakewalk ends is not where they want to be.

Ole Miss will likely be in the playoffs when the only portal window opens up. You can't have Lane actively coaching Ole Miss while trying to get LSU up and going.

The frick you cant. Being that it’s Ole Miss and Lane had us on the threshold of the playoffs and a potential NC run, I’d let him coach his heart out. You’re telling me, that you’d rather push him out the door now and derail a title run instead of hoisting a NC trophy in January and then having him leave?

Ole Miss basically has the next guy lined up but there's also a timeline. If Lane stays, he will take another job. He can't afford to wait much longer than Ole Miss can.

This should be pretty simple to understand. The only person who thinks Lane should be able to accept a new job but still coach Ole Miss is Lane.

Would Bama let DeBoer coach in the playoffs if he were taking the Auburn job?

A betting man would say that not signing the extension already on his desk is a signal that he’s gone.

Ole Miss better get your contingency plans in place ASAP.

Better figure out how to coach the Egg Bowl and (more importantly) in the playoffs, if he walks. And better figure out how to deal with assistants as well.

No they don’t. If they did, they wouldn’t be acting like jaded bitches and throwing out public ultimatums.

I’ve heard sumrall is waiting to sign the Auburn deal until he figures out if he can come to the sip instead

No such thing. He's not really from anywhere and there are blue bloods bleeding. Texas and Alabama will be open next year if someone doesn't get some hardware.

It's ironic because this coach is waiting to see if Ole Miss opens up before taking the job at Auburn.

Speaking of another school with a track record of fricking up coaching searches.. but seriously, you guys are just going to have to accept that with big time success comes big time attention. It’s like dating a fine arse woman. If you can’t handle other guys checking her out, get yourself a fat bitch that no one pays attention to. Acting like a bitch every time someone looks at her is how you get her entertaining another man’s attention.

The logic and reasoning has been laid out. Everyone else seems to get it. Can't help you any further.

Why would he go to LSU? That is a step down.

I would call that foolishly dangerous. But, he's foolish for wanting to work under John Cohen, too. Flip a coin, I guess.

And when Sumrall signs some place else then what? There’s no loyalty or guarantee in the coaching game. Until a deal is signed, there is no deal. You guys are setting yourself up for disaster believing you can big dick your current coach with ultimatums because you think you’re sitting on a sure thing. You’re going to end up with no Lane and no Sumrall and pulling a coach off the scrap heap on your current course

I mean, that was never going to happen anyway. Ole Miss will be gone by round two if not sooner
