Good for Ole Miss for doing the right thing. They suck at P.R.

I'm an LSU guy (which by state law requires me to dislike Ole Miss ), but this is complete bullshite what they are doing up there.

What people really need to "get over" is their wimpy-assed hypersensitivity towards anything that "reminds" them of the civil war and/or slavery days.
Unless you happen to be 185 years old (I'll go ahead and assume none of you are), it is impossible for you to be "reminded" of a time when YOU DIDN'T EXIST. Is that hard to understand?

If the sight of a cartoon-like character roaming the sidelines really, truly reminds you of "The Old South" and strikes fear deep down inside your very soul, you have a lot more issues than what we're talking about here.

Good luck in the real world; you're gonna need it.

I hate to agree with a webel for general principles, but he is right in this case. Just because the public has been spoon-fed PC, most do not know anything about history other than "South bad North good" and they will never seek out the true facts of history. Do some research about the thousands of blacks who wore the grey with pride and attended veteran reunions until they died of old age. It is a shame that groups like the KKK have misused an honorable symbol like the battle flag, but they also use the US flag, should we outlaw that also?

LSU has had protests involving similar issues.

What I always found amusing was the thought that most of the people protesting have no idea why our athletic teams are called "The Fighting Tigers". They believe that LSU adopted that nickname in honor of the big striped cat. WRONG.

It would probably also shock many of these same students to "learn" that nearly half of the buildings on LSU's BR campus are named in honor of Confederate leaders.

I'm sorry- but political correctness is ruining this nation.

Where does it end? Should we re-name certain parishes in Louisiana that happen to be named after Confederate civil war figures? How about our military? Should we re-name places like Ft. Hood, Ft. Polk, or Ft. Bragg? I mean- they're all named for Confederate Generals....

It's part of our history, guys. It's not about hatred.

Exactly. I guarantee you if people knew LSU's athletic teams were named after a Louisiana Civil War regiment there would be backlash.

What if Ole Miss get rid of the flag and wins the national title?

James Meredith was on the radio back in the Spring and they asked him who he wanted as a new mascot. He sat there for a second and then answered with something like....why are we even getting rid of the Colonel to begin with. He is my mascot and this university's mascot.

If the first black student is saying it isn't a problem.....then what the hell is the problem.

Many college kids today have no idea who was President 10 years ago. The people making an issue of this need to keep stirring the pot so the donations will keep coming in(a certain organization that is known by letters beginning with "N" comes to mind).

If they MUST change and are intransigent about it, then how about this? He's a Rebel fighter.

Admiral Akbar for New "Rebel" mascot.

Colonel Toddy

I agree with you
My dad has always told me stories of being a student at LSU back in the day, and them burning Rebel flags because of their continued symbalance with Ole Miss, and not the region as a whole. I'm all about Colonel Reb
