The mascot search is full of FAIL

I thought our guitar hero contest at halftime was about as stupid as it gets...but then comes the mojo.
quote:
Mojo would work his magic on the field, providing an organizing theme and strengthening our game-day experience, allowing us to develop traditions, cheers, music, dances, and skits around a Mississippi theme, with Mojo as the centerpiece. The Rebels don’t just need a mascot, like any other team. We are here in Mississippi. The Rebels need their Mojo.

At first, I thought there had to be some mascot on that list that would have some redeeming qualities, but I was wrong. All of those ideas are terrible. Is the brain trust at Ole Miss really that bad? I think some second graders could come up with a better and more relevant list that that.

The Black Bear gets my vote. Some PC moron will prob come along and say it's racist though.
Why don't they just be Ole Miss, the only team with no mascot? Just use the script with everything. Maybe a black bear on the sidelines like Alabama has the Elephant, nothing to do with the crimson tide.
Anyway, they can go to hell for all I care.

Well, at least the horse or the bear aren't THAT embarassing. The "Rebellion" lion is sorta clever, but any mascot you have to explain... doesn't really work.
I can kinda buy those... but yikes... it's like they accepted ANY idea and ran with it.
Rebel Blues Musician? Yeah, a fat, old blind guy playing a guitar is going to get me jacked up for football. ???

Not as embarrassing as the others. But if you're still going to be the "Rebels" though, shouldn't you have some mascot actually tied with the old confederacy? If not, just change your name from "Rebels" to "Lions" or "Bears."

Too bad you can't push the reset button on this.
You could just keep the controversey going and change it to the Indians?

Or maybe Ole Miss could get rid of all of those ideas and get a copy of these essays written by 6th-8th graders:
Mississippi Division of the United Daughters of the Confederacy
Thereby tying Ole Miss, the Rebels, and their mascot, together with a rational basis
quote:
ELEANOR SHANDS ESSAY CONTEST (in its 43rd year). Each year, the Mississippi Division UDC sponsors the Eleanor Shands Essay Contest annually. Cash prizes are awarded to contest winners. 1st Place $50.00 2nd Place $30.00 and 3rd Place $20.00 The topics for the 2010 contest will be the same as the 2009: Junior High (6-8 grade) - Animals Used as Mascots During the War Between the States

Ole Miss Blues doesn't sound bad but the mascot doesn't fit anything that would fire you up.
Bears? Ole miss is basically NE Mississippi. The bears are mainly found in the SW part of the state.

Is Ole Miss not going to use the name "Rebels" anymore? Or are they just changing the mascot?
Posted on 6/28/10 at 9:15 am to Cdawg
I think you have to work "insufferable" into the mascot name somewhere.
