Ole Miss (eventual) coach search

I dropped in on the Ole Miss board to see who their fan base was realistically wanting OM to take a look at to replace Matt Luke.
Let me just say I was absolutely taken aback at some of the names they are throwing around:
Bobby Petrino or Mike Leach
Chad Morris
Throw the kitchen sink at Gary Patterson
Mark Dantonio
Les Miles is beneath them
What planet are you guys on?

Other than the idea that Patterson would even listen, which part do you find comical?

Why would any of those coaches even consider going to a school with no football history and major NCAA sanctions?

Serious candidates should include Bill Clark (UAB) and Neal Brown (Troy).

Well LSU did a 3 month search and had a stacked roster with no sanctions, and ended up with a DL coach. So I am thinking OM with a depleted roster and severe sanctions ends up with a quality control assistant or water boy.

Neal would be a home run for Ole Miss in their current state or Mizzou. He should be a candidate for UT or Arkansas imo.

Why would any of those turn their nose up at a program that's won multiple national titles, was one play away from an SEC title just two years ago, has an all American quarterback waiting, and can pay as much as anyone?
Biggest problem with most of those names is they are too old. It's going to take an energetic recruiter. I certainly don't see us being interested in Dantonio or Leach.

This made me laugh and cry at the same time. Well done.

Just a guess but, Bill Clark seems to be set in the state of Alabama. Money may convince him otherwise but, he would be the guy to change the culture in Oxford.

Guys get crazy during a coaching search. They'll throw out any name that they think would be a good hire. Doesn't matter if it's realistic or not. I can't tell you how many times I've seen someone post " throw 10 mil at Saban and see what he says". It's ridiculous really.

I don't think a single name on that list would even pick up the phone to use an offer from y'all as leverage.
OM's last three hires were a guy a couple years removed from coaching middle division highschool football (turned out pretty good actually, but he was a no name). A DL coach. And a guy that had just gotten chased out of Fayetteville with pitch forks.
Come to think of it, the buyout notwithstanding, I doubt Bielema would take that job after he gets fired from Arkansas.

Jock washer maybe, water boy no way.

No good coach will touch that program. It's coaching suicide.
Les Miles is the only coach crazy enough to take it.
Going to be fun to see Les vs O next year.

Oh god this is gold.

Ole Miss can't sustain recruiting to out talent people. They need someone who can coach and scheme. Leach or BP would be perfect.

I wouldn't mind seeing what interest we'd get from Mike Bobo. If we go the coordinator route (might be the only choice depending on NCAA sanctions), then I wouldn't be upset if we gave Jeremy Pruitt a call. A few million for first HC gig without much pressure? That would be tempting.......

Clark wants to coach in the SEC and it is only a matter of time before he gets an SEC gig. Not a big name hire but I think he is a superstar and will eventually win big in the SEC.

The problem with that, is that an up-and-coming coordinator or young head coach is not going to want to start his major CFB career off behind the eight-ball.
You are going to end up with a Sly Croom-esque coach. The most bland, boring "clean the program up" type of guy to ride out the 3-4 years of sanctions. Then MAYBE you can get a splashing hire.
Nobody who is building his career is going to want to go to Oxford with the situation as it is.

If that's the case then I think he would be a great hire.

Bill Clark isn't a moron though. So ole Miss is out.
TBH, it wouldn't surprise me if he follows saban at Bama. That would suck because he is a fantastic coach.
